Back in March, FX ordered another season of its hit series Snowfall, a drama series chronicling the rise of crack cocaine in 1980s Los Angeles. Since then, little information has been revealed about the series, which is currently in production. But we just got a better idea of what’s to come thanks to new casting details. Here’s the latest on Snowfall Season 5 and other news about the show.

‘Snowfall’ Season 5 is coming

In the latest episode of Snowfall, everyone was dealing with new challenges. Franklin’s relationship with Jerome and Aunt Louie grew strained; Alton and Cissy fled to Cuba; Leon wanted to leave the game; and Reed was preparing to be replaced. The story continues in Snowfall Season 5, but not exactly from that point.

“We’re going to probably, it looks like, jump forward a little bit in time, more than we have maybe in the past to get into the meat of 1986 when the violence was really ramping up, when you really started to feel the full militarization of the LAPD, when the War on Drugs was on its way to reaching its apex,” co-creator Dave Andron previously told Gold Derby.

“And then this kind of pop culture explosion that was brimming in South Central — the rise of gangster rap and you had ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and those things getting ready to drop and blow up. It’s a huge sea change moment for the neighborhood,” he continued.

“And so without getting into too much character stuff, I will just say from the standpoint of history and kind of where we are in the arc of this thing, it’s a really exciting time for us to plop our characters into and see what happens,” Andron added.

The ‘Snowfall’ Season 5 casting details reveal more information about the story

The next season will also introduce a string of new faces, including Brandon Jay McLaren (Graceland), DeVaughn Nixon (The Game), and Tiffany Lonsdale (You).

Deadline reports McLaren will portray a detective named Buckley working with the “Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (C.R.A.S.H.) Unit.” He’s described as “attractive and outwardly tough,” but he also has his own problems, “including a drug addiction and a failing marriage.”

Nixon is set to play “powerful ex-con” Kane Hamilton. He grew up in the neighborhood and was “almost like an older brother to Franklin (Damson Idris) and Leon (Isaiah John), and an actual older brother to Kevin (Malcolm Mays).”

And Lonsdale will be a character named Parissa. “Strong-willed, powerful, educated, sexual, and with a droll and dry sense of humor,” she’s a former medical professional who knows Teddy (Carter Hudson) and “tends to him after he’s been hurt.”

Buckley stands out immediately and makes us wonder if he’ll be looking into Franklin. But based on his character description, it sounds like his behavior could potentially compromise his investigations.

The introduction of Nixon suggests Franklin could tighten his grip on the streets. But how does Nixon feel about Franklin killing Kevin, even if it was an accident?

The other big reveal is that Teddy will get hurt. The last viewers saw, he had tracked Alton to Cuba to kill him. But maybe something went wrong?
