Sony had a massive hit on their hands with 2018’s Oscar-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so a sequel seemed like a no-brainer. Sony has big plans for their Spider-Man properties with Madame Web, Morbius, and possibly more Andrew Garfield Spider-Man. Then the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse cast added some new faces to join Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jake Johnson.

‘Moon Knight’ Oscar Isaac plays Miguel O’Hara from 2099 in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

Oscar Isaac (Star Wars and Dune) has a busy year in Marvel superhero movies. Marvel revealed the Moon Knight TV show trailers for Disney+ with Isaac playing an intense hero.

In Across the Spider-Verse, Oscar Isaac plays Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-man 2099. He comes from an advanced future with a slick Spider-suit and extra tech. However, he’s not technically completely new to the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse cast.

While he did not show up in the main Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he appeared with a hilarious cameo in the post-credits scene. Spider-Man 2099 and his AI Lyla chose one more universe to explore.

He jumped into Earth-67, where he met Peter Parker from the Spider-Man series in 1967. They hilariously reenacted the Spider-Man pointing meme that Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield also did in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

‘Insecure’ actor Issa Rae joins new ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ cast as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman

Another confirmed new face to the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse cast, Issa Rae (Insecure), was cast to play Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman.

She joins returning heroes Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Spider-Gwen, aka Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), and Peter B. Parker (New Girl actor Jake Johnson).

Jessica Drew has a very different origin than most Spider-People. She was not bitten by a radioactive spider (or a pig, in the case of Spider-Ham) but rather the result of experimentation. She even joined Hydra for a time.

In addition to joining the Avengers, SHIELD, SWORD, and more, she famously became a superhero mother.

Who else is rumored to join the Sony sequel cast?

In addition to the Issa Rae Spider-Woman, Oscar Isaac Spider-Man 2099, Shameik Moore Miles Morales, and other new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse cast members, some rumors have hinted at other heroes in the movie.

Some outlets reported a possible Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch cameo as Doctor Strange. With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, anything could happen in the wild Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The MCU Spider-Man Tom Holland told SYFY Wire that Sony producer Amy Pascal approached him about a cameo. In an interview with Jacob Batalon, Tom Holland, and Zendaya, he told the story.

“Amy actually asked me on the set of this movie, and no one has come back to me,” he said. However, for one reason or another, the plans fell through.

With an entire multiverse to pull characters from, the directing team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller could make any heroes work in Into the Spider-Verse 2.
