7 Things to Know About Nick Viall of ‘The Bachelor’
Bachelor in Paradise has ended and many of the engaged couples have gone on to live happy lives together. But Nick Viall was one of the few who made it to the end of the experience without finding love. It was another public disappointment for the contestant, however he now gets to call the shots!
After trying to find love three times on television his time has come, and he will be the next star of The Bachelor. Many people in Bachelor Nation know who Viall is and have their own opinions of him. But in case you’re new or just haven’t been paying attention, here are seven things you should know about the new bachelor.
1. He’s an “older” contestant
We’re not talking about his reality show experience (although he has a lot of it). We mean that he is literally older than most of the other contestants who have been involved with Bachelor Nation. He just turned 36, which of course doesn’t make him that old. But there have been fans who pointed out that his age is different from the show’s typical contestants who are in their 20’s.
But just because he’s older doesn’t necessarily make him wiser and more prepared. “I don’t know if anything really prepares you for it,” he said on Bachelor in Paradise: After Paradise referring to being on a reality dating show. “I’ve had an interesting journey throughout this process — it hasn’t worked out so far, and hopefully this time around maybe things will end up on a more positive note. I can’t be more excited about the possibility of it actually all working out.”
2. He has a pretty good day job
A lot of the people who go on these shows happen to be models, actors, or singers who are secretly launching their career. But Viall has a real day job and doesn’t actually seem to need the show. He graduated from University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Since then he has put that degree to good use. He’s an account executive at Salesforce, which helps other companies grow.
3. He was a runner-up on The Bachelorette … twice!
It is definitely not the Wisconsin native’s first time on reality TV. He was a contestant in Season 10 where he was competing to get the last rose from Andi Dorfman. He made it all the way to the fantasy suite with Dorfman but was sent home before he could propose. So why didn’t he make the cut? “Life with you would be me over-analyzing every single moment,” she told him according to People Magazine.
He was then brought back for a second chance in Season 11 with Kaitlyn Bristowe. There, the two really hit it off and he even slept with her before the Fantasy Suite. He defended Bristowe when she was publicly ridiculed for sleeping with him. However, once he made it to the final two she picked the other man. “The only single explanation,” Bristowe told him. “… I’ve looked for everything and I want to find something that has gone wrong and the only explanation that I have is my heart is just with somebody else.”
4. He outed Dorfman for having sex with him
After his time on Season 10, Viall was able to confront Dorfman on The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose. There she told him that she wasn’t in love with him. He then dropped a crazy truth bomb that wasn’t shown on television. “If you weren’t in love with me … I’m just not sure why, like, why you made love with me.” Some may argue that it’s a reasonable question, but many saw it as him trying to make her look bad in front of everyone. So what was her response?
“Well, first of all that’s kind of below the belt. That’s something that should be private and kept private,” she said. However she insisted that everything they did and said to each other was real. So the contestant wasn’t exactly seen as a good guy after that whole situation, but he has moved on from it.
5. He dumped Jen Saviano on Bachelor in Paradise
Once again he tried his luck at finding love on another spinoff show. He made it to the very last episode of Bachelor in Paradise with Saviano, however he didn’t get down on one knee. When asked why he decided to try again after being unsuccessful three times he gave a funny answer to Glamour.
I think I just like to torture myself. I think I just like pain. No, all jokes aside, I obviously have a very interesting past when it comes to my time here. I probably have done what fortunately many other won’t do, and there have been ups and downs from a relationship standpoint. But I really don’t have any regrets about it. Bachelor Nation has not always been kind, but I’ve never wanted to have past experiences dictate or have a negative effect on how I make future choices.
This time the breakup was all Viall’s decision, but he posted a very nice message about Saviano on his Instagram afterwards.
6. He might be involved in Evan and Carly’s wedding
It can be tough to be happy for others when you just went through a breakup but Viall is a champ. He didn’t walk away from Bachelor in Paradise engaged, but Evan and Carly did! They are already making a few plans for their upcoming nuptials and it looks like our future bachelor will be involved somehow. He announced the couple’s plan on Twitter.

7. He’s already started meeting the ladies
The lineup for The Bachelor hasn’t been announced yet, but the show has started shooting. Executive producer, Mike Fleiss took quite a few behind-the-scenes photos of the first introductions and Viall meeting the women. It should be exciting to see if this will finally be the season he gets to find his true love.
