It looks like the queen of rap finally tied the knot! Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty are married and their wedding details aren’t exactly what you’d expect. If you didn’t know, the Queen rapper has been talking about marrying her boyfriend for the better part of a year. Though they’d gotten a marriage license in early 2019, the Bronx-born rapper’s schedule was so hectic that it expired before the pair could actually walk down the aisle.
However, after renewing their license, it looks like the “MEGATRON” lyricist is finally Mrs. Petty. Here’s what we know.
Inside the surprise wedding
In the late evening of Oct. 21, 2019 — Minaj hopped on Instagram to share a video of her special day, captioning it, “Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10•21•19.” (Minaj’s given name is Onika Tanya Maraj.) In the video, the rapper’s fans saw glittery “Mrs.” and “Mr.” mugs, as well as white baseball caps that read “Bride” and Groom” on them.
Though we haven’t seen a glimpse of Minaj’s gown just yet — she did give fans a slight preview. If you look closely in the video, you can spot a silver sequin-covered strappy heel. Knowing the “Barbie Dreams” rapper’s over-the-top style, we’re sure that she looked sensational on her big day.
Minaj has waited a long time for this moment on her Queen Radio show on June 21, she spoke candidly about finding happiness. She said,
We did get our marriage license. I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness. It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there I don’t want to compromise that for anyone or anything.

Though some fans and celebrities like Christina Aguilera are already congratulating Minaj on her big day. Not everyone is pleased about her nuptials with Petty. The rap queen’s new husband, whose nickname is “Zoo,” has a criminal past.
According to his criminal record and mug shot, Petty was convicted of attempted rape in 1995. His conviction stemmed from an incident with a 16-year-old girl in 1994. Today, Petty is a registered sex offender.

It seems stunning that one of the biggest rappers of all-time would ever encounter an “everyday man” like Petty. However, as it turns out the rap queen and her new husband have a past.
When the pair first went public with their romance in late 2018, Minaj revealed that they’ve known each other since they were teenagers. The pair dated back in the day, and according to TMZ, the “Bed” rapper refers to Petty as one of her “first loves.”
Since Minaj knew Petty before she was super famous or had a ton of money, it might have been easier to connect with him. Though she does speak about her new husband and share photos with him. She’s much more private with him than she was in her past relationships — like the one she had with rapper Meek Mill.
