Nina Dobrev Passed Shaun White ‘by a Landslide’ Their First Time Snowboarding Together
Shaun White is an accomplished snowboarder who has won three Olympic gold medals in the sport. His girlfriend, Nina Dobrev, is known more for her acting work than athletic skills. However, Dobrev is more skilled in snowboarding than most people realize. In fact, when she and White first snowboarded together, Dobrev surprisingly passed White “by a landslide.”

Dobrev and White first sparked dating rumors in early 2020, and they went public as a couple in the spring of that year.
Their relationship picked up around the time that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic started taking shape. As such, the couple decided to move in together when the world went into lockdown. Dobrev even shared a picture of her cutting White’s hair at home.
“We went to the hardware store bought a bunch of paint, and brushes and definitely got in over our heads, but it was really fun,” White told People. He also added, “Nina’s just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me. Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special.”

Given White’s snowboarding skills, it’s easy to imagine that most people might not be able to keep up with him. However, when they first hit the slopes together, Dobrev proved that she was not to be underestimated.
“I actually have been snowboarding since I was really little,” Dobrev shared on E!’s Daily Pop. “I skied first and then I switched over to snowboarding at probably 8 or 9.”
She added, “I think he was more surprised when we went for the first time. He was expecting to wait for me and it was quite the opposite. I had already passed him by a landslide. Now I can keep up!”
Of course, during important competitions, Dobrev is sitting back and supporting White. He is currently in Beijing to participate in the 2022 Winter Olympics, which will be his fifth time at the games.
“I am really excited for him,” Dobrev said. “Just to get into the Olympics at all is one of the hugest accomplishments, let alone to get in five times. I’m so excited. I’m so proud of him.”

Dobrev and White are in two different industries. As such, their relationship initially felt odd to many fans. Even their friends reportedly did not understand. However, over time, it became clear that the two of them have more in common than people realized.
“Their friends were surprised at first about the relationship but now that they’ve seen them together it actually makes a lot of sense,” an insider said (via E! News). They also added, “Nina and Shaun share a lot of similarities. they are both very positive, and social and enjoy spending time outdoors and staying active.”
Another source commented, “Nina and Shaun complement each other very well. They have similar energy, they both are fun, low-maintenance people who like to laugh.”
