Rest easy, Vampire Diaries fans. The alleged hate between Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley — who respectively played Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries — has officially been settled. On Oct. 14, Dobrev went on SiriusXM’s Chicks In the Office podcast, where the actress clarified her previous statement signifying she despised Wesley while filming TVD. And not going to lie, the whole situation has been painfully unnecessary.

What did Dobrev say about Wesley?

For those of you wondering what Dobrev said about Wesley, don’t fret. It’s been documented online since June 2019. During an episode of the Directionally Challenged podcast, Dobrev opened up about her relationship with Wesley to Vampire Diaries co-stars Candice King and Kayla Ewell.

“Paul and I didn’t get along at the beginning of the show. I respected Paul Wesley, I didn’t like Paul Wesley,” Dobrev said. “I remember everyone would walk up to me after the show aired and they’d be like, ‘Are you and Paul dating in real life?’ Everyone thought that we had such good chemistry.”

“I realize now that there’s a fine line between love and hate and we despised each other so much that it read as love,” she continued. “We really just didn’t get along the first five months of shooting.”

Dobrev then noted the tension was in the past. And both former Vampire Diaries leads get along fine now.

“We ended up getting to a good place and it was fine. But of everyone, I think I probably see him the most and hang out with him the most,” she said. “We’re probably the closest. We hang out a lot and we’re really good friends and I love his wife. It’s so funny how much has changed because I never thought that he would be one of my best friends.”

Dobrev doesn’t hate Wesley and didn’t ‘despise’ him while filming ‘The Vampire Diaries’

When Dobrev appeared on Chicks In the Office, the 30-year-old clarified she never hated Wesley.

“I was talking about all the wondering things that I love about Paul Wesley and how, for a very brief moment in time, we did not get along,” Dobrev revealed. She then pointed out it’s almost impossible not to get upset with those closest to you.

“If you said you and your parents and siblings have loved each other unconditionally, from the moment you were born until the day you died, you’d be a f*cking liar,” she stated. “Of course, you become a family on set. You spend every waking moment together, probably real moments than you do with your real family because you’re there from 5 in the morning until midnight, six a.m. sometimes … there’s gonna be mood swings.”

Nevertheless, Dobrev confirmed she didn’t “dispise” Wesley, despite what the media portrayed.

“It’s not that we didn’t like each other, we just didn’t appreciate each other as much as we do now,” she shared. “And then, of course, it got blown out of proportion.”

The ‘Vampire Diaries’ actress calls out the press

Still speaking with the Chicks In the Office podcast, Dobrev also called out the press for their coverage of her comments.

“The story was blown out of proportion to such a crazy degree,” she explained. “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. Like why? I guess nothing else was happening that week because every outlet picked it up. I felt like I was Brangelina.”

“It blew my mind when that became a thing because CNN picked it up,” Dobrev continued. “Did Trump not tweet that day?”

The Fam star then indicated her frustration with the media’s portrayal.

“They turned one sentence out of context and deleted all the other words where I was like, ‘I love him, we’re best friends now.’ I literally said, out of everyone, he’s probably my best friend,” Dobrev said. “And they didn’t put that in the article.”

But, the actress darkly understood why the media outlets chose the quote to be featured in headlines.

“It’s clickbait,” Dobrev said simply. “Of course, you read that headline and of course, you’re going to click it. You’re welcome, E! News, you’re welcome ET, CNN, and every outlet. You got a bunch of clicks that month. I hope I get residuals for all the ads that you ran because of one good sound bite.”

Dobrev and Wesley hilariously address their feud on Instagram

Meanwhile, Dobrev and Wesley got together to address their alleged hatred for one another. In an Instagram video, both actors are seen at a pool party. And when they meet up, Dobrev apologizes for the comments that sparked the media storm.

“Hey, you know, I never got to tell you. I’m sure you saw all the [press],” Dobrev tells Wesley. “It was so stupid. You know how much I love you. And that’s what I was trying to get across. But, obviously, they took one sentence out of context. So stupid. I’m sorry either way that it even happened.”

“Listen, if there’s one thing everyone knows about me, it’s that I don’t hold grudges,” Wesley replies.

Dobrev lets out a gasp of relief, thanking her former co-star. “No problem, of course,” Wesley says as he reaches towards Dobrev for a hug. But, instead of embracing her, Wesley pushes Dobrev into the pool fully clothed. No hard feelings, right?

“I ‘despise’ you,” Dobrev captioned the video.

Clearly, both Wesley and Dobrev are in on the joke. They never hated each other and everything was blown out of proportion. Regardless, it’s still nice to see the Vampire Diaries alum hanging out together after 10 long years. May their friendship live on.
