The entire television industry has been delayed amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As a result, TV creators and writers have had time to really think about their characters and how they would like to proceed with their storylines moving forward.

Riverdale, the beloved teen drama from The CW, follows Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), a teenager living in a seemingly picturesque town. However, as he embarks to pursue his dream as a musician, things begin to change drastically in life, revealing hidden secrets and the darkness that lurks underneath the town and in the lives of some of it’s biggest power players.

Now, fans are convinced that The Vampire Diaries alum Nina Dobrev will appear in the series’s upcoming season.

Season 5 of ‘Riverdale’ begins in January 2021

Like many series, Riverdale, one of The CW’s flagship shows, was cut short due to the pandemic. Season 4 ended with a major cliffhanger after just 19 episodes. Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, and Camila Mendes will return as Archie Andrews, Jughead, Betty Cooper, and Veronica Lodge. We can also expect to see their classmates, Kevin Keller (Casey Cott), Toni (Vanessa Morgan), Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), and Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton).

However, Season 5 of Riverdale will be extremely interesting since it’s set to hop forward in time seven years. “It’s kind of our way of revamping, I guess. I get to play someone who’s my age now and not a teenager,” Reinhart said during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “I’m going up in the world… I don’t want to be 30 playing an 18-year-old.”

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that there would be a major Toni focused episode this season, and fans can expect to see a Riverdale and Katy Keene crossover. It looks like we might also see a familiar face on the show.

Nina Dobrev is known for her role on ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Before Riverdale, The Vampire Diaries was one of The CW’s flagship series. It ran for eight seasons from 2009 to 2017. The series was set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls and followed Elena (Dobrev) and her younger brother, who was living with their aunt after losing both of their parents in a tragic car accident.

While Elena struggles to find some normalcy and return to her life as a normal teenager, the mysterious Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) comes to town. Drawn to the brooding and mysterious personality, Elena doesn’t realize that Stefan is hiding a secret — he’s a vampire. Stefan is also trying to stay off of his diabolical brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) radar.
