DJ Tanner is the oldest of the Tanner children on ‘Full House’

This series premiered in 1987, introducing viewers to the Tanner family. Their house was a little unconventional, especially with three father figures living under the same roof. After the death of Danny Tanner’s wife, though, he needed some extra help taking care of his three daughters. 

DJ Tanner is the oldest of the Tanner sisters. When viewers met her, she was still in elementary school but taking on some extra responsibilities around the house. (She even put herself in charge of the Thanksgiving dinner for one episode.) 

This character grew up on Full House, with milestones like her first kiss and her first college acceptance being featured in episodes of the sitcom.

How old was DJ Tanner when ‘Full House’ premiered?

DJ Tanner was 10 years old when viewers first met her. They saw this character grow into a young adult, celebrating her 13th birthday with her friends and her acceptance into college with her family. 

According to, Bure was 11 years old when she first portrayed DJ Tanner in the sitcom. She continued in her role as this character for over 100 episodes. Decades later, the actor returned to the Tanner household for the Netflix spinoff series, Fuller House.

“It was a blast,” Bure said during an interview with Your Teen Magazine of her time working on the series. “It was eight wonderful years of my life and I think the same is true for everyone who worked on the show.” 

“In fact, this month marks the 25th anniversary of the pilot episode and the whole crew is getting together for a barbecue to celebrate,” she continued. The middle child, Stephanie Tanner, was 5 years old when Full House premiered. Michelle Tanner, portrayed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, was just an infant.

Candace Cameron Bure portrayed DJ Tanner for the Netflix spinoff series, ‘Fuller House’

When fans saw DJ as an adult with the series Fuller House, she was working as a veterinarian and 39 years old, according to Bustle. With the passing of her partner, this character moved back into her childhood home with her children, her sister Stephanie, and her best friend Kimmy Gibbler.
