In the finale episode of On My Block, Monse (Sierra Capri), César (Diego Tinoco), Ruby (Jason Genao), and Jamal (Brett Gray) were talking about the future. Monse is deferring a year at Wellesley College to write her book; Jamal scored a new job at a high tech company; Ruby, Jasmin (Jessica Marie Garcia), and César plan to stay in Freeridge. While talking about their plans post-graduation, Ruby spots a group of kids trying to get a glimpse of the party.

As it turns out, they are the new characters for the Freeridge spinoff. According to TVLine, Bryana Salaz (Team Kaylie), Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Ciara Riley Wilson (LA’s Finest), and Shiv Pai (Iron Fist) will star as series regulars.

According to the official logline, it states: “The stories of Freeridge continue in this On My Block spinoff following a new crew of friends who may or may not have unleashed a deadly curse kicking off an unforgettable adventure.”

For the spinoff series, co-creators Lauren Iungerich, Jamie Uyeshiro, Eddie Gonzalez, Jeremy Haf, and Jamie Dooner will executive produce. Also, Uyeshiro, Gonzalez, and Haft will serve as the co-showrunners.

In an interview with Variety, Iungerich talked about the Freeridge spinoff series. “Co-creating and running On My Block was and will always be a highlight of my life,” she said. “I am so proud to pass the baton to my incredible partners Eddie and Jeremy and the incomparable Jamie Uyeshiro, who rocked it in the writers’ room from day one. There are more stories to tell of our beloved Freeridge. And I cannot wait to continue to work with this talented team.”

Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s Head of Comedy, also told the outlet. “While this chapter is closing for our OG squad this October as they reach the end of High School, we are excited to bring a brand new cast of characters and stories to life in this On My Block spinoff,” she explained. “There are so many more stories to tell in Freeridge, and we’re grateful to continue this journey with Lauren, Eddie, Jeremy, Jamie Uyeshiro, and Jamie Dooner.”

When is the ‘On My Block’ spinoff premiering on Netflix?

At the moment, Netflix has not released an official release date for the spinoff series. Freeridge showrunners Jamie Uyeshiro, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft sat down with Variety and delved into the spinoff series.

“Some of the greatest comments we’ve heard about On My Block were from fans telling us they felt seen, and represented,” they said in a statement. “As we embark on Freeridge, a more female-driven show, we will continue to invest in authentic characters that represent our passionate audience. Oh, and there may be gnomies.”

Right now, there is limited information about the new series. So, On My Block fans will have to wait for Netflix to release more details about the spinoff.
