Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life went out on a cliffhanger back in 2016. Ever since the credits rolled on the revival’s final installment, fans have been discussing the paternity of Rory Gilmore’s baby. Several conspiracy theories have been born from those discussions, and fans aren’t the only ones getting in on the action. A cast member has a pretty wild idea about who the father might be.

Alan Loayza has a wild theory bout who the father of Rory’s baby is

Alan Loayza, who portrayed Colin McCrae on Gilmore Girls, has a wild theory about who may actually be the father of Rory’s baby. Loayza, speaking during a Gilmore Girls event in Connecticut, suggested that perhaps Jess Mariano actually fathered Rory’s child. According to Glamour, Loayza suggested that Rory and Jess could have had an off-screen moment that resulted in a baby.

He continued, claiming that if Sherman-Palladino wanted to throw fans a curveball, that would be one way to do it. Tanc Sade, who took on the role of Finn, doesn’t seem to buy into Loayza’s theory, though. During the same event, he stated that Logan absolutely has to be Rory’s baby’s father. The actors have not received any insider information about the paternity, so it’s still anyone’s guess.

There is no definitive proof that Rory was only sleeping with Logan

Loayza’s theory isn’t all that farfetched. Fans who believe Logan is the father of Rory’s baby point out that the pair’s affair in Fall was heavily featured on the series. Their final Life and Death Brigade outing is considered when Rory conceived, but there is no definitive proof that is the case. In fact, fans are never clued into who Rory was sleeping with at any given time.

Loayza’s assessment may be correct, as wild as it sounds. It’s possible that Rory was sleeping with multiple people at the time she conceived. No rule says she couldn’t have slept with Jess, Paul, or someone else between the beginning of Fall and finding out about the pregnancy.

In the end, it’s probably still Logan

While it’s always fun to theorize about potential curveballs that Amy Sherman-Palladino could throw fans, it seems most likely that Logan is, in fact, the father of Rory’s baby. In fact, Sherman-Palladino basically confirmed the paternity when discussing the revival back in 2016.

When asked about the relationship between Logan and Rory, Sherman-Palladino was quick to discuss the parallels between Christopher Hayden and Logan. According to Entertainment Weekly, Sherman-Palladino said, “Every girl has a father issue, and Logan was Christopher. Logan was charming, smart, and not quite the dependable soul that you need. Or, at that time, was not the great dependable soul.” If Logan is to Rory, what Christopher is to Lorelai, then he’d have to be the father of her baby.
