Oprah Winfrey Reveals Perfect Baby Gift for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Oprah Winfrey knows her way around gift giving and she certainly has a knack for picking out the perfect present for the person who has everything. Winfrey recently revealed what she’ll be giving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first born baby and it’s a home run: for a boy or a girl.
Oprah shares the gift that keeps on giving
Anyone familiar with Oprah knows that she has her “favorite things” and they are usually all kinds of amazing. Turns out, she’s also got a favorite baby gift — and take note world, because you’ll definitely want to swipe this idea, though maybe not quite on the same scale as Oprah.
Since she’s a close friend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, people have been curious about what she’ll give the couple when their baby arrives. When asked by Access Hollywood recently, Oprah shared: “Oh, honey… I have a standard gift that I do for people that I really care about.”
It’s a well-loved gift, as she explained, “So I don’t know the baby’s name or the baby’s gender, but this baby will have enough books to last a lifetime!”
Oprah gave the same baby gift to Mindy Kaling
While it may sound like an exaggeration that Oprah gives “books to last a lifetime,” it seems that description is pretty spot-on.
Oprah gave the same gift to Mindy Kaling when she had a baby and Kaling went into detail about just how massive the library of books was, sharing that it took two men with a U-Haul to deliver it to her house.
She explained to USA Today: “They arrived with a hand-carved bookcase, prettier than any professional dollhouse you had ever seen that contained a hundred of the classic essential books in children’s literature. And I held my baby up to it and I said, ‘Did you see what Ms. Winfrey did for you?’ Each book has ‘Katherine’s Book Club’ on it.”
Oprah says she’s ‘proud’ of Meghan Markle
Earlier this week, during an interview with ET at The Hollywood Reporter’s Empowerment in Entertainment Gala, Winfrey explained why she’s so proud of the way Markle is handling the upcoming birth of her baby with Prince Harry.
Winfrey noted: “Oh my God! I’m so proud of her decisions. To be able to stand up and say this is what I really want for my baby and my family and now I’m going to do it a different way when it’s been done that way for a thousand years?” She added: “I’m just so proud of her.”
She noted that Markle has been bold to “stand [up for] what works for her and Harry, and what is the truth for them, how they want to raise their baby.”
That includes, of course, the decision not to pose on the hospital steps just hours after giving birth as Princess Diana and Kate Middleton have done before her. Oprah shared: “Who is ready to walk out and stand before the world and put that face on, you know, a day after you’ve had a baby? So I think for her and him — I’m sure it was a mutual decision for the two of them — I think it’s a great thing.”
She added, “And truthfully, it ain’t nobody else’s business! That’s really the truth.”
