Oscar Isaac was one of the bright spots associated with the Star Wars sequel trilogy. His great performances won over plenty of Star Wars fans. While they may want more from him in the Star Wars universe, it appears as though Isaac may be done much like his castmate John Boyega. He did not express interest in returning for another role. But Star Wars fans are still optimistic he might come back one day regardless. Here’s why.

Oscar Isaac’s role within the ‘Star Wars’ universe

Oscar Isaac has played many roles during his career, and he’s been a major part of the Star Wars sequel trilogy as well. In this series, he portrays Poe Dameron. Poe is a fighter pilot for the Resistance. In The Force Awakens, he’s freed from the clutches of the First Order by Finn and helps take down the Starkiller Base. In The Last Jedi, he confronts his own failure as a leader and learns a valuable lesson on knowing when to fight. The Rise of Skywalker sees Poe lead the final assault on Emperor Palpatine’s fleet of Star Destroyers.

Isaac received plenty of acclaim for his chemistry with Boyega as well as for injecting some humor into the franchise.

Oscar Isaac said he will not return as Poe Dameron

According to IndieWire, Oscar Isaac said he is likely done with Star Wars. His reasoning is that he’s less inclined to do big-budget productions and more likely to work with filmmakers he’s inspired by.

“It’s not really what I set out to do. What I set out to do was to make handmade movies, and to work with people that inspire me…[For] every actor of a certain generation, those are the films that made them who they are, so that’s certainly my case. It feels like for me a personal turning point and that, as far as I’m concerned, it has nothing to do with the finished product. It’s the process of doing this.”

That’s a fair response. Say what you will about the Star Wars films, but first and foremost, they’re designed to be crowd-pleasers intended for the masses. It sounds as if Isaac would like to pursue more challenging parts. Asked if this meant he’d never return, Isaac was blunt but did add what might get him back in the saddle:

“Probably, but who knows. If I need another house or something.”

One other famous acthttps://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/bill-burr-accepted-a-cameo-in-the-mandalorian-just-to-troll-his-fans.html/or who was seemingly “done” with Star Wars in the past was Harrison Ford. Ford believed that his character, Han Solo, should have perished at the end of Return of the Jedi. Ford felt this was the best way for his character to serve the story going forward and that Solo had no more development to undergo. Anyone who saw the movie knows that’s not how it ended up.

They also know that Ford returned for another Star Wars installment: The Force Awakens. A Star Wars Reddit thread discussed Isaac and the likelihood of whether he’d return. One fan summarized it best:

“If Ford can come back, Isaac can come back. Money talks, baby.”

That’s absolutely correct. If the offer is right and Isaac has time in his schedule, there’s little doubt that he’d make a comeback for more Star Wars. There’s also the question of the script and the role itself. If Disney can conceive a project with a great role for Poe, perhaps Isaac will consider returning. Or maybe they just need to wait until he needs another house.
