Beyoncé is much more than just a Grammy-award winning singer

You may know her as the artist behind songs like “Crazy in Love” and “Love On Top,” but Beyoncé also appeared in multiple films throughout her career. That includes movies like Dreamgirls, Austin Powers in Goldmember, and The Pink Panther. Most recently, she voiced adult Nala in Disney’s 2019 adaptation of The Lion King.

The artist took her involvement with The Lion King one step further, creating a Grammy-nominated album based on the film, entitled The Lion King: The Gift. She also released the song, “Spirit,” which appeared in the live-action adaptation of the movie.

Beyoncé wrote and performed music for Disney’s ‘The Lion King’

Aside from singing ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight” with Donald Glover, Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen, Beyoncé created her own song “Spirit” to be featured in this photo-real adaption. Her album, The Lion King: The Gift, earned a Grammy nomination and showcased African music and culture.

“[The album] tells you basically the storyline of the film, the titles and a synopsis of what those songs are about so we can try to match some of these songs to the same emotions that happen throughout the film, so we have a rounded body of work,” the artist explained during her documentary Making The Gift.

It was “Spirit,” featured on both The Lion King: The Gift and The Lion King’s Soundtrack that earned Beyoncé recognition at both the Golden Globes and the Grammy’s. The Golden Globe for Best Original Song went to “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” from Rocketman.

While Spirit earned nominations in the Grammy’s Best Song Written For Visual Media and Best Pop Solo Performance, the artist did not take home the award in either category. However, the artist did not earn an Oscar nomination for “Spirit” or her appearance in this film.

Some fans even suspected Beyoncé could get two awards closer to an EGOT, after receiving Emmy nominations for her Netflix original, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé. Unfortunately, the artist is still short an Emmy, Oscar, and Tony.
