‘Dune’ didn’t take home Best Picture, but ‘Dune: Part 2’ could
One of the most fascinating races of the 2022 Oscars was the one for Best Picture. Many fans of genre fiction were pulling for Dune to become the first science-fiction movie to take home this prize. Sadly, that didn’t come to fruition this year. But it isn’t the franchise’s last chance to win the biggest honor of the night.
With Dune: Part Two already confirmed, the series could collect the Best Picture win in 2023 or 2024. In fact, its chances seem promising after its success at the 2022 Oscars.
That would also leave Dune on a similar trajectory to Best Picture as The Lord of the Rings movies. Those films didn’t win the award until The Return of the King.
