The great love between Jamie and Claire Frasier has led to some amazing moments during the first four seasons of the Starz time-travel drama Outlander. Their romance is one for the ages, and those steamy sex scenes are unforgettable. Let’s take a look at some of the most romantic things Jamie (Sam Heughan) has said to Claire (Caitriona Balfe) from the hit TV drama based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series.

Jamie loves Claire so much, he can’t stand the thought of her being in pain

“I can bear pain myself, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have.”

Jamie can’t stand the thought of seeing Claire in any kind of pain, and this quote comes from Season 1 when they are discussing having a family of their own.  At the time, Claire didn’t think she was able to give Jamie children, but he reassures her that that is not a requirement for him to love her.

He then takes his reassurance to the next level by saying that he couldn’t stand to see her going through the pain of childbirth because he loves her so much.

Jamie’s nickname for Claire

“Your face is my heart, Sassenach, and the love of you is my soul.”

Sassenach is Jamie’s pet name for Claire. And, even though the word itself doesn’t have the greatest meaning, when Jamie calls Claire “Sassenach,” he does it with love.

Sassenach is a derogatory Gaelic term for “foreigner,” and Gabaldon says that Jamie adopts the word as a term of endearment for Claire because one of the things that attracts him to her is that she is an English woman. “He kind of likes to think of it as ‘I’ve got one of their women,” says Gabaldon.

“Oh, aye, sassenach. I am your master, and you’re mine. Seems I canna possess your soul without losing my own.”

These two are way ahead of their time when it comes to having an equal partnership in their marriage. But, Jamie was obviously one-of-a-kind, as he told Claire how important she is to him. They possess each other’s soul, and no matter what obstacles they face, they will always be there for each other.

They always have each other

“Don’t be afraid, there’s the two of us now.”

Fans of Outlander know that for Jamie and Claire, being together is all that matters. When they are together, they can handle anything, but no matter where or when they are, these two are crazy in love.

“When the day shall come, that we do part…if my last words are not ‘I love you’ ye’ll ken it was because I didn’t have time.”

Jamie isn’t scared of dying, he’s just concerned that if it happens, he won’t have the chance to tell Claire that he loves her. That’s quite possibly the most romantic thing ever said on television.

Different romantic histories

“Ye werena the first lass I kissed…but I swear you’ll be the last.”

Claire came from the 20th century – and she was also a married woman – which meant she had a sexual history that the women in 18th century Scotland normally didn’t have. When they got married, Claire knew Jamie was a virgin, and he knew she wasn’t.

Despite their different sexual experiences and history, Jamie knew that Claire was the only woman he wanted to kiss for the rest of his life. He also admitted that he holds a grudge against every memory of Clarie’s that doesn’t have him in it, and every tear she has shed for another.

‘Outlander’ quotes become merch

“Because I wanted you…more than I ever wanted anything in my life.”

This line is so beloved by fans that it is featured on an Outlander t-shirt. This is what Jamie said to Claire when he was explaining why he married her.

“I wake up everyday, and I find that I love you more than I did the day before.”

This one is so memorable, it’s now a meme. These two keep falling in love with each other each and every day, making Jamie and Claire true #relationshipgoals.

Outlander will return for Season 5 in 2020.
