Ozark fans have been eager for new episodes since the season 3 finale, which saw Marty and Wendy Byrde falling in even deeper with the cartel. The good news is, it’s in the works. But when does Ozark come back on exactly? Jason Bateman teased the release date for Ozark Season 4 in an interview.

Production on ‘Ozark’ is almost complete

Filming on Ozark Season 4 has been in the works since November 2020, after being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Bateman previously told IndieWire. It’s still in progress, at the time of this writing. But director Amanda Marsalis revealed in September that there was just one episode left to shoot. Production should officially wrap sometime in October, according to W Magazine.

While a 2022 release has been confirmed, the exact date has not been provided. However, Bateman shared the month it would come out in an episode of his Smartless podcast, which he hosts alongside actors Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. “I think January, that’s what I’m – that’s what I’m thinking,” he said when asked when Ozark would return to TV.

What happened in the end of ‘Ozark’ Season 3

The show left off with a literal bang, with Omar Navarro shooting and killing Helen Pierce. Helen had been trying to cut the Byrdes out of their arrangement, but Navarro felt they were too valuable — even more than her. After shooting Helen down, he hugged the blood-soaked Byrdes and told them he looks forward to working more closely with them in the future.

“As good as Helen is, there’s other lawyers in the world,” showrunner Chris Mundy told Entertainment Weekly when explaining Navarro’s decision. “But Wendy and Marty have now pulled off two impossibilities for [Navarro].”

“One is getting a casino to launder through in the first place, which is sort of the holy grail of money laundering,” he continued. “And the second is that, at least in Navarro’s mind, their claim that they have the FBI on their side and can swing the power of the U.S. government in the intervention in the drug war against their rivals, that’s something virtually no one else can do, and that essentially tipped the scales for Marty and Wendy.”

‘Ozark’ Season 4 picks up immediately after that moment

In a teaser trailer, Marty and Wendy are in a bathroom at Navarro’s home, clearly traumatized by what just happened as they try to clean blood and brain matter off of themselves. Mundy shared with Deadline that next season will follow them as they try to figure out an “out.”

“You’re going to learn what they want their end game to be, and they’re going to have to reckon with it a little bit …” he said. “If they’re trying to look to see if there’s an out, they’ve got to figure out if that’s what they want, and if so, what’s the version of it that they want. Then reckoning with that after so much chaos — that’s going to bubbling under the surface.”

The fourth season will have two parts consisting of seven episodes each. Catch them in 2022.
