Who died in ‘Ozark’ Season 3?

Although Ozark Season 3 was as dark as the other seasons, only two major characters died. Wendy sacrificed her brother, Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey) when his mental health threatened to interfere with the Mexican Drug Cartel’s secrecy.

Wendy felt she did everything in her power to talk sense into her brother. However, when she tries to drive him to safety, he first calls the police and then Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer). Wendy realizes that Ben cannot stop interfering, so she abandons him at a restaurant. In the next scene, we see Helen’s hitman, Nelson (Nelson Bonilla), at the diner to take out Ben.

Helen’s death is even more shocking. In the very last scene of Ozark Season 3, she arrives with Marty and Wendy to Mexico. The three are heading to see the Mexican drug cartel leader — Omar Navarro (Felix Solis), at his son’s christening.

However, Helen doesn’t make it into the church. Nelson shoots her in the head, blowing her brains all over Marty and Wendy.

‘Ozark’ fans believe there is a strong chance that Wendy’s brother — Ben — is still alive

There’s a strong possibility that Marty saved Ben’s life. When Marty went to check in on his therapist, Sue Shelby (Marylouise Burke), he found an essential bit of information. Nelson killed Sue, but conveniently left behind the therapist’s ledger — with Helen Pierce’s name in it.

It’s unlikely that the skilled assassin would leave a vital piece of evidence behind unless he intended to do it. Although Nelson’s name is in the planner as well — fans assume that isn’t even his real name.

“That wasn’t a mistake,” one Reddit user believes. “That told Marty that Helen had already fallen out of favor with Navarro, and the assassin was taking orders directly from Navarro. So, Marty struck a deal.”

Marty is painted as the more reasonable pair in his marriage. Wendy is much more willing to kill than her husband, so it’s not surprising that he didn’t want Ben to die.

“He gave Ben a way to survive for now,” continued the Redditor. “[He gave] Wendy a chance to prove her loyalty (by ‘killing’ her brother) and gave Navarro leverage against them (Ben) in exchange for eliminating Helen.”

Fans found more proof that Ben is alive

“Think about it,” one fan wrote. “We never saw Ben actually die, and we never saw the face of the corpse. Wendy would really owe Navarro after if he kept him alive.”

Viewers witnessed Helen’s death. However, the producers did not show Ben’s murder on-screen.

“Plus Marty telling Ruth (Julia Garner) ‘You don’t want to look,’ was too obvious,” another fan added. “Marty thinks 10 steps ahead. Marty is smart.”

Many fans believe that the reason Marty told Ruth not to look at Ben’s body was that it wasn’t him. We will find out in season 4 of Ozark if Wendy’s brother is still alive.
