P-Valley, the glittering Starz drama series from creator Katori Hall was one of the most riveting shows to debut in 2020. The series chronicles the lives of The Pynk’s club owner, Uncle Clifford (Nicco Annan), and the women who dance for her. Much of the focus in season 1 was on newcomer Autumn (Elarica Johnson), a mysterious woman running from her past. Now,  Mercedes (Brandee Evans), the club’s headliner will be placed front and center.

When P-Valley first debuted, Mercedes was looking to retire from dancing to fulfill her dreams. However, as we saw in the season finale, her ambitions were thwarted. However, a casting call from the upcoming second season may prove she has another chance.

What happened to Mercedes in ‘P-Valley’ Season 1?

As we know, when P-Valley first debuted, Mercedes was looking to retire from dancing to open her own dance studio. The club’s OG had been saving her money for years, storing it with her mother Patrice (Harriett D. Foy). Though Mercedes and Patrice had a strained relationship, Mercedes trusted her mother to keep her money safe. However, when it came time for Mercedes to put a down payment on her property, Patrice swooped in with her daughter’s money stealing the property to open her own church.

Now we’re going to see how Mercedes deals with this blow as well as more of her life beyond The Pynk. “You’re going to see a lot of things that happen outside the club this season, making it humanizing as well because everyone has a life when they go home from their job and so do these women and these men in the club as well,” Evans told Gold Derby.

‘P-Valley’ Season 2 casting details hint at Mercedes’ journey

With the betrayal from her mother, Mercedes will be forced to continue working at The Pynk to save her money all over again. “Episode three, I read something, and just like last season, I was in my living room crying,” Evans told Gold Derby. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, Mercedes is going through it,’ so I think she’s going through, it, even more, this season. Katori has put her on some type of journey, chile, so this is going to be very interesting. If I’m already feeling this in episodes one, two, three, I can only imagine what’s going to happen when we get to 10.”

Still, a new casting call for extras could hint that all is not lost. Mercedes could end up working as a dance instructor or cheerleading coach for the local high school.

CBS is reporting that Hylton Casting is looking for extras for season 2. The casting call is asking for of-age actors who can be a part of school dance scenes, general school scenes, and football game scenes. Filming will take place on Sept. 24, 27, and 28 in Georgia.  The pay starts at $104 for 8 hours of work plus $30 to take the COVID-19 test.

When will ‘P-Valley’ Season 2 premiere?

As excited as fans are about P-Valley returning to the small-screen, new episodes won’t air on Starz until 2022. At present, the cast and crew are filming season 2 in Atlanta. This means that the new season won’t debut until two years after season 1. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic prevented filming until everyone could be safe and protected on set.

Still, the long delay will be worth the wait. “If I had a dollar for every time I get cussed out for posting and it’s not about when season 2 is coming… I may have a few #birkin bags in the closet!” Johnson shared on Instagram. “We are working on it guys! You won’t be disappointed! @katorihall put all the spices in this season so I hope you like extra HOT!💋 UNTIL THEN… here is a shameful, wigless BTS on the set of @pvalleystarz S2 💋🖤.”

Let’s just hope that season 2 debuts at the top half of 2022.
