The plot of ‘P-Valley’

Most of the show happens at The Pynk, the nightclub that many residents of Chucalissa descend upon every night. It’s run by the gender-fluid, fashion-forward boss Uncle Clifford, but it’s his top dancer Mercedes that keeps the wheels turning. Still, Uncle Clifford ends up falling behind on bills and risks losing the club to Mayor Ruffin and the Kyle Brothers.

Things start to turn around, however, when Autumn, a hot, new dancer on the run from her ex Montavius, arrives and lands a job at the club. With her help, Uncle Clifford winds up getting to keep his club. But as she told him in the finale, he now “owes” her for the $250,000 she put down at an auction to save The Pynk.

What will ‘P-Valley’ Season 2 be about?

Hall told Entertainment Weekly that things will get tense between Uncle Clifford and Autumn now that she’s become his partner.

“She came in getting her a** smacked on the dance floor and now, she has some ownership in the club,” Hall explained. “The power dynamics at the club have completely changed and to see Uncle Clifford and Hailey fight over the throne will be stuff of legends.”

But at the same time, Hall noted that Uncle Clifford and Hailey are “forever” bonded by what happened in the Paradise Room with Montavius, whose disappearance could lead to a search by Delta Devoted.

Meanwhile, Mercedes will continue to struggle with respectability politics and how she wants to move forward with her life.

“Will she be able to get her dance studio and custody of her daughter? Will she ever conquer her pimp-turned-pastor mother? Only time will tell,” Hall teased.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hall also mentioned that the show will address the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis and that it might expand beyond the borders of Mississippi as Lil Murda and Keyshawn continue to blow up in their careers.

“I think that it’s inevitable that we’ll expand our universe because I think the show is about how the strip club is a reflection of people who live in the intersection of race, class, and gender, and that’s just everywhere, but we’ll continue to dig our heels into exploring the American South,” she continued.
