Apple TV+ unveils its first official trailer for the drama Pachinko. Based on the novel of the same name by Min Jin Lee, Pachinko is already promised to be one of the most noteworthy dramas of 2022. Starring an array of popular and award-winning South Korean actors, the drama written and created by Soo Hugh is finally becoming a graspable reality. Pachinko’s trailer promises fans a heartfelt story about family and love.

‘Pachinko’ trailer shows the journey of immigration, forbidden love, and looking back on life

Fans who have eagerly awaited more details about Pachinko get a full-fledged look at the drama in its first trailer. It follows the story of a female character named Sunja (Kim Min-ha and Youn Yuh-jung) from her birth to the many different and profound years of her life. She is the drama’s proclaimed protagonist, as the trailer explains, “and through her, a family with endure.”

Pachinko’s trailer depicts how one central character changes the tide and ensures her family’s journey through the generations. Part of the drama is set in a historical time period during the Japanese occupation of Korea. The trailer gives small tidbits of seeing Sunja grow up and living her current life after immigrating from Korea. Interweaved in her story is her grandson’s own journey to self-discovery. Fans will also see her forbidden romance with a character named Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho).

Soo Hugh explains to Vanity Fair, “When you are someone who grows up with no safety net, your choices and the ramifications of those choices are so different than those who do have that safety net. It tests all of our characters’ moral fortitude—yes, you can live, but how far are you willing to go?

Pachinko’s trailer gives fans a broader scope of the emotional impact the storyline will have. Fans follow the story of four generations of a family led by one central character.

Who stars in Apple TV+’s ‘Pachinko’?

Before the main trailer, Pachinko generated buzz because of its leading cast. K-drama fans would have immediately recognized actor Lee Min-ho in his role as Koh Hansu. The original novel describes his character as a Korean man adopted into a rich and affluent Japanese family.

Many would recognize him from his standout career on South Korean television. He starred in the classic teen drama The Heirs and the Netflix K-drama The King: Eternal Monarch. Actor Kim Min-ha plays the role of a young Sunja. Fans would recognize her for her role in School 2017, Partners for Justice, and The Chaser.

Oscar-winning actor Youn Yuh-jung plays the leading role as an older Sunja in Pachinko. The acclaimed South Korean actor started her career in 1967 and has many accolades. She gained global fame in the 2020 movie Minari. Youn became the first Korean actor to win an Oscar.

Rounding out the main cast in Jin Ha, who plays the role of Solomon, Sunja’s grandson. Jin Ha is still making his career, appearing in a handful of on-screen work. He has made most of his career in theater in shows like Hamilton.
