Ireland locals extend invitations to ‘Disenchanted’ star Patrick Dempsey

Earlier this month, Dempsey began posting photos of Ireland’s beautiful countryside upon his arrival for the Disenchanted film, with fans offering to play tour guide to the star.

“We’re waiting for you here in Enniskerry, Patrick!!! I’ve the tea on for you,” one fan shared. “we can show u around,” a follower offered. “Let me know if you need some recommendations on where to eat or drink! The north coast is full of great spots!” another wrote. “Will I give u my address now or???” a fan prompted.

In a recent selfie, Dempsey expressed his joy at being a part of the highly-anticipated Disney sequel.

“I love being in Ireland and I’m having so much fun working on this film #disenchanted,” he captioned the photo.

‘Enchanted’ sequel was stalled due to the script

Enchanted ended with Giselle (Adams) and Robert (Dempsey) falling in love, while his former fiancé Nancy (Idina Menzel) ran off with Giselle’s ex Prince Edward (James Marsden) to her fairytale home of Andalasia. The sequel is set ten years later, where Giselle begins to question her happiness. Naturally, mayhem ensues in both the real world and Andalasia.

Dempsey explained that while Disenchanted was in the works for quite some time, creating a script that met with the high standard of the original film was a challenge.

“Every year they were like, ‘We’re going to do this. It’s going to get done,’ but then no one could agree on the script,” he told Variety. “It’s such an important film for them and it’s a satire. It’s not a typical Disney movie. It’s kind of off-brand a little bit. Yet we give honor to all of those Disney movies that have come before and they finally now have figured it out. And we’re old enough, so it’s like a midlife crisis movie.”

McDreamy tries out his vocals in ‘Disenchanted’

Enchanted showcased the singing talent of Adams and Marsden, though audiences didn’t get to hear any harmonizing from Dempsey. The Grey’s Anatomy alum revealed he gets his chance in the sequel.

“I get to sing and dance,” Dempsey shared. “I will be singing for the first time. I’ve never ever sung publicly — for a reason. So bear with me. I hope the fans embrace it. But they’ve set me up for success and the lyrics are really fun. The numbers have really great choreography. And the premise is going to be interesting.”

With several of the original film’s co-stars returning for Disenchanted, actors Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays are also joining the cast. Dempsey noted how the film’s fun and heartwarming storyline can raise the spirits of audiences after such a tumultuous year.

“To work with everybody again after 14 years is just really exciting,” he said. “We need some escapism right now. We need those romantic comedies and those musicals to get people out of the doldrums that we’re in.”

Disenchanted is scheduled for release in 2022.
