Peacemaker Season 1 came to a close back in February, but fans of the DC Extended Universe are already eager for the next outing. And director James Gunn gave them another reason to get excited. According to Gunn, the show will have further ties to the DCEU. And although additional Justice League appearances aren’t guaranteed, there will be more cameos in Peacemaker Season 2.

‘Peacemaker’ Season 1 brought in the Justice League

The Peacemaker Season 1 finale saw the Project Butterfly team defeating the alien Butterflies, but some familiar faces joined the group at the very end. Although they arrive too late to partake in the fight, the Justice League makes a cameo in the last episode. Silhouettes of Superman and Wonder Woman appear in the background, while Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) engage with the show’s main characters.

The moment is played for kicks, but it does reaffirm Peacemaker‘s place in the DCEU. And with the series greenlit for a second season on HBO Max, we could see Christopher Smith (John Cena) and his friends meeting more DC characters.

James Gunn says ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will have more cameos

Not only is Peacemaker Season 2 confirmed, but James Gunn recently acknowledged he’s working on another DC project. That’s exciting news for fans. And it seems the director’s content will tie into the greater DCEU, with the possibility of more exciting cameos on the horizon.

During an interview with Total Film (courtesy of Games Radar), Gunn teased as much, revealing:

“I think we’re going to see more connections in some other stuff as we move forward with Peacemaker and other shows at HBO Max. So those [cameos] will keep coming. I don’t know if the Justice League is going to show up in every season of Peacemaker; that might be a one-time thing. We’ll see!”

If the Justice League isn’t around for Peacemaker Season 2, who else could show up in the coming episodes? DC has a few major releases debuting over the next few years, so there are a number of options.

There’s no word on the Peacemaker Season 2 release date, but James Gunn’s DCEU projects will likely release amid the many films Warner Bros. has planned for 2022 and 2023.

Some of those follow Justice League characters like Aquaman and The Flash, but others will focus on Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) and Shazam (Zachary Levi). They aren’t part of the Justice League team, but they promise to play prominent roles in the future of the DCEU. It’s possible they could run into Gunn’s characters down the road.

Of course, the numerous personalities from The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Gunn’s unnamed project could also interact. Many of them have already met, and they run in circles that could bring them together again.

We’ll have to wait to see who else Peacemaker comes into contact with, but there’s one thing we do know: he’ll likely have some ridiculous insult to throw at them.

Peacemaker Season 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max.
