Pokémon Legends: Arceus came out less than a month ago, but fans are already discussing a possible sequel for the Nintendo Switch game. Now that they’ve explored the history of the Sinnoh region, many are hoping to do the same for Johto. In fact, they’ve even come up with a title for the follow-up of their dreams: Pokémon Legends: Celebi.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is one of Game Freak’s most unique additions to the franchise, featuring an open-world format and diving into the history of previous Pokémon games. Arceus takes the world explored in Diamond and Pearl and digs into its history, showing fans what the Sinnoh region was like before Pokémon and humans existed as peacefully as they do in the present day.

Of course, Sinnoh isn’t the only Pokémon location full of history, and a sequel could easily explore another. Some fans believe Johto should be Game Freak’s next stop. Here’s why they’re calling for Pokémon Legends: Celebi.

Fans want to see ‘Pokémon Legends: Celebi’ next

Since its release on Jan. 28, Pokémon Legends: Arceus has been greeted with plenty of praise — and many fans are already looking for new content. Rumors of a DLC surfaced not long after the game’s release, and players are eager to get their hands on an update. Some have also expressed the desire for a sequel.

In a thread on Reddit, someone suggested that Game Freak should follow Arceus with a sequel dubbed Pokémon Legends: Celebi. Like Arceus, this game could dive into the history of Pokémon — just focusing on Johto this time.

As the Redditor pointed out, Johto has a ton of interesting lore, from Legendary birds Lugia and Ho-Oh to its trio of Legendary dogs:

“We have loads of established lore with the birds and dogs. The Unown, the [Ruins of Alph], Ilex Forest and Celebi. Each of the Legendaries would act as Noble Pokemon. I’m sure they could easily make a storyline from this.”

They also suggested Celebi’s time-traveling abilities could play a central role in the gameplay. And commenters were quick to agree that Johto could work for a sequel setting. Although they didn’t see eye to eye on all the details, they definitely felt there was enough background to make it a worthwhile endeavor. Plus, it would give players the chance to catch even more Pokémon in this open-world format.

There’s no indication of whether Game Freak actually intends to make a sequel for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. However, there’s no denying Pokémon Legends: Celebi would draw fans back into this world. And after how successful Arceus has been, the company would be smart to focus on similar installments in the future.

At this early stage, a DLC announcement seems more likely than a sequel. However, Game Freak releases a new Pokémon game almost every year. Perhaps it will fill its lineup with more like Arceus moving forward. That certainly seems to be the direction fans are hoping for.
