If you haven’t binged on Poldark Season 1 to 4 in preparation for Season 5, there’s a neat way you can get all caught up. Hedgehog Digital put together a handy little infographic of the number of times certain events happened during the period drama. Sit back and enjoy perusing some interesting facts gleaned from the first four seasons of Poldark.

Many fans look forward to the scenes where Ross Poldark takes off his shirt. When the Hedgehog team started keeping count, they found Poldark took off his shirt 20 times from season one to four. Some of his shirtless scenes have included him flexing his muscles while mining, emerging from the Cornish sea, and relaxing in his chambers. There, we’ve just given you a reason to watch the show if you haven’t seen it yet.

Ross and Demelza were in 63 scenes together

The producers love to give Ross and Demelza a lot of screen time. The couple is shown in a total of 63 scenes together. The first time they are seen together, Ross saves Demelza from being beaten. The last time they are seen, Demelza is upset after Ross is mistakenly arrested for murder.

Poldark characters drank 207 pints of ale

Apparently, every hour is happy hour in Cornwall. During the last four seasons, the characters in Poldark sure drank a lot. They drank a total of 207 pints of ale, 125 glasses of liquor, 352 glasses of wine, and made 77 pub visits.

Demelza said “Judas” 38 times

Judas got a bit of the spotlight these past four seasons. Demelza said the name of Judas Iscariot, Jesus’ betrayer, a total of 38 times. The folks over at Hedgehog Digital assert Demelza chose to use the name of Judas instead of Jesus because she likely grew up in a religious household and didn’t want to use the Lord’s name in vain. This is strictly forbidden in religious families because it breaks the third commandment, which states, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain” (Exodus 20:7, NKJV). Perhaps Demelza reasoned Judas’ name is a good placeholder for a curse word since he betrayed Jesus.

Life expectancy was short

If you were alive during this time, there was a 15% chance you’d kick the bucket before the age of 2. From seasons one to four, there were 13 births and 23 deaths. Season two had the most deaths, with a total of nine.
