After all the twists and turns of Power Book II: Ghost Season 2, it feels like there’s a lot left to uncover. But one thing that’s certain is the death of a major character.

Showrunner Courtney Kemp confirmed such during a Q&A on Instagram Live in January. When coming up with those moments, she’s known to follow a writer’s concept that endings should be both “surprising and inevitable.” She referred back to Raina’s death in the original series as an example. “It was inevitable that someone was going to die because of Tariq’s actions, but the surprising piece was that it was Raina,” she said.

It’s certainly something to keep in mind throughout the rest of the season. In the meantime, let’s look at the characters most likely to die in Power Book II: Ghost Season 2.

1. Mecca

As the “big bad” of the season, Mecca is the most obvious person on this list. Cold and calculating, he’s introduced as a drug supplier who ends up secretly working with the Tejada family. It turns out he has a past with Monet Tejada, but he’s intentionally and deliberately keeping the other side of his life from her.

He should know, Monet isn’t his sweet “Ne Ne” anymore. She’s vicious, aggressive, and especially hates being lied to. Imagine what’ll happen if she or her husband finds out that Mecca has been playing them this entire time.

2. Lorenzo

At the same time, Monet has been so blind to everything this season that it seems Mecca could very well succeed in swaying Monet to be with him and getting rid of Lorenzo. Maybe Lorenzo’s efforts to prepare Dru Tejada to take over are even a little bit of foreshadowing.

Whatever the case, it would certainly be a surprise considering Lorenzo just got out of prison, but perhaps inevitable given Monet’s recklessness. It would also be interesting to see how it would affect Monet’s relationships with their children, particularly Diana Tejada, a true daddy’s girl who already has a tense bond with her mother.

3. Dru

Our main argument here rests on the inspiration behind Dru. Kemp said his character was partly influenced by Michael Corleone from The Godfather, who, in case you’re unfamiliar, was one of the sons of a crime family. His hot-headed brother Sonny was supposed to succeed patriarch Vito Corleone after Vito’s death, but Michael took over after Sonny was violently murdered.

The roles are reversed in Power Book II: Ghost — with Dru being the initial pick to take over the family business — but maybe their fates are too. So many people expect Cane to die that they could be overlooking signs about Dru.

4. Monet

All season long, Monet has been messing up. (Shout out to Tariq for calling her out on it!) CourseCorrect is failing, and she’s playing with fire oscillating between Mecca and Lorenzo. How long before it all blows up in her face? Granted, she’s such a prominent character that it’s hard to imagine her dying. But maybe that’s the point.

5. Carrie Milgram

Carrie Milgram just wants justice for her former friend and lover Jabari Reynolds, but she’s put a huge target on her back in pursuit of it. If she goes away, so does a lot of the attention surrounding the case. We just hope it doesn’t come to that.
