Power Book II: Ghost started in 2020, yet, it feels like it’s just getting started. Picking up after Ghost’s death in Power, the show follows his son, Tariq St. Patrick, as he follows in his path to become a drug dealer. He gets involved with the Tejada crime family to further his goals, but that only creates more problems for him. Though the show is only in its third season, show creator Courtney Kemp already has ideas in mind for Tariq’s ending.

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ could last ‘five or six seasons’

Kemp previously told Deadline she hoped Ghost would run for “five or six seasons.” But she also said she was planning a “big shift” for the fifth season that would allow greater continuity.

“The big shift that would happen in Season 5, the big shift that I’m planning for Season 5 would take the show in a direction where frankly it could go on forever,” said Kemp. “The show could go for 10 seasons or more considering that shift and it’s a big shift. But if that yeah, we could go forward for sure and do some fun stuff.”

“But that depends on whether we make it there,” she added. “You know, I would love to make it there, but it’s all about the fans. If the fans stay interested in the story that we want to tell then we will keep going forward, but I’m very excited about the long-term storytelling.”

Starz will have the final say about whether the show goes on that long. But Ghost is such a hit that it feels likely the network will see it through.

Tariq’s endgame in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

Kemp imagines that, as the show progresses, Tariq will eventually become serious with someone, forcing him to make a decision between the street life and a life of legitimacy.

Somewhere in Tariq’s future there will be a woman in his life who demands that he make a choice between the boardroom and the street,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “And that choice, and that woman, that’s going to become a very difficult dilemma for Tariq, as he goes forward.”

Kemp clarified that would not happen next season. “For next season, what I would tease is that there will be fault lines drawn between Tariq and his friends, for various reasons,” she continued, seemingly referring to the apparent death of Lauren Baldwin. “And then those will affect some fault lines that will be drawn within the Tejada family.”

“There will be a series of earthquakes, and then a series of aftershocks that will shake the foundation and remake the series in a really sort of impactful way. That’s season 3,” she added.
