‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Does Diana Remind Tariq of Tasha?
The second season of Power Book II: Ghost is underway and per usual, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) is dealing with a lot. His life as a college student is on the verge of imploding with his life on the streets. Moreover, he’s still in a bit of a love triangle with Lauren (Paige Hurd) and Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) while trying to work with Effie (Alix Lapri).
It looks like Diana might surprise us all this season. After all, it’s possible that she reminds Tariq of his mother.
Diana Tejada will have a lot going on in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2
In the first season of Ghost, fans watched Diana be stifled and dismissed by her mother Monet (Mary J. Blige). However, this season, she’s going to begin to strike out on her own. “She wants to do her own thing. She wants to go to school,” Tonodeo told ABC Audio. “Her mom is like, ‘No, this is what you need to do. I’m teaching you the game so that you can take over.’ She definitely gets closer with Tyriq, but again, that is a little tricky because we are part of this family and we don’t let any and everybody in. So, I feel like you’ll get to see how close we allow him in, how close Diana will get to him.”
Does Diana remind Tariq of Tasha?
Weary of her mother’s tight leash on her life, Diana is beginning to rebel against Monet. In episode 202, we saw her approach, Effie for some mentorship. Fans know that Diana has long wanted to attend college. However, Monet has been adamant that she remain by her side to help run the family business.
Now, with Effie’s guidance, it’s possible that Diana will begin attending classes and juggling the business behind Monet’s back. There’s also still some major tension between Tariq and Diana. Though the college student seems to be more focused on Lauren, there is an undeniable connection between him and Diana.
In fact, in a recent Instagram Live, Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp explained that Diana reminds Tariq of his mother, Tasha (Naturi Naughton). Since Tasha is currently in witness protection and Tariq is desperately missing his mother, his connection with Diana could become even stronger.
Will Tariq end up with Lauren, Diana or Effie in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’?
Though he’s just a college student, fans are now trying to determine if Tariq will end up with Lauren, Diana, or Effie. “Tariq definitely feels like he’s walking around as a ticking time bomb,” Kemp told Entertainment Weekly. “His relationships are going to get more complicated, and while that’s all happening, he’s still got a love life.”
Looking at his father’s path, some fans believe Tariq will eventually end up with Effie. “Angela saw positive in Ghost which is a big part of the reason why he chose her over Tasha,” one Redditor said via Express. “As far as we know right now, Lauren seems to be the only positive one over Effie and Diana. Effie is mainly the balance but Lauren just tends to be more on the positive side. Yes, we are only coming into season 2 but I can see this playing out. So basically I’m saying Effie will be the long-run relationship but Lauren will be the winner in the end.”
