Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) has operated with little to no guidance in Power Book II: Ghost, especially after losing contact with his mother, Tasha St. Patrick (Naturi Naughton). Now, after being framed for double murder by Cane Tejada (Woody McClain), Tariq is realizing that there is someone else he can trust, his best friend Brayden Weston (Gianni Paolo).

In fact, people are convinced that history is repeating itself with the young men.

Tariq has finally told Brayden everything on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

Though Tariq has known Brayden since high school and they’ve built their business and Course Correct together, the baby drug dealer has always kept his best friend and arm’s length. Since Tariq insisted on keeping Brayden in the dark, Cane was able to manipulate him. Now that Tariq is fighting murder charges he’s decided to come clean to Brayden about everything.

“It’s not a Brayden and Tariq scene if we’re not arguing about what’s going on with the business, so you’re going to see a lot of loyalty being tested,” Paolo told The Knockturnal. “But you’re also going to see a lot of them bonding and truly understanding each other more and why we make these decisions. You know, it’s Brayden and Tariq so we obviously have differences in what believe in. But it’s all for the greater good, in my opinion. So you’re going to see a lot of deepening of relationships.”

Now that Brayden knows everything and Tariq has no one but him and Effie (Alix Lapri) to turn to, it appears that history is repeating itself.

Is history repeating itself with Brayden and Tariq?

For years, people have been saying that Brayden and Tariq’s bond mirrors that of Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and Ghost (Omari Hardwick). Fans know that Brayden is no Tommy, but in some ways, history does seem to be repeating itself with the younger men.

In their confrontation scene following Tariq’s release from prison, fans couldn’t help but see the similarities. “Wow that Tariq and Brayden scene sounded just like Ghost and Tommy talking!” one fan tweeted via Express. Another added, “I wish people would Wake up & realize that Tariq & Brayden are basically Ghost & Tommy; just younger with different backstories.” A third fan said, “So ya don’t peep how history repeats itself, Tariq is Ghost, Brayden is Tommy and Cane is Kanan.”

Though Ghost and Tommy’s bond was fractured at some points, in the end, they were there for each other.

Will Tariq and Brayden kill Cane?

Since it appears that Tariq and Brayden are following in Ghost and Tommy’s footsteps in some ways, it’s likely that the pair will band together to get rid of Cane. After realizing that Cane framed him for murder, Tariq promised to get the gangster back with the ultimate revenge. Since Brayden has gotten close to the eldest Tejada son, it’s likely the pair will plot to kill him.

“Tariq has trusted a lot of people,” Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp said during an Instagram Live. “He has been close to a lot of people. He has not had his head on a swivel like he needs to, so he’s going to have a few feelings. There’s going to be a few feelings. So that’s gonna happen for sure. Coming out and having the anger of being betrayed is going to shift you in a way … so just think about those things.”

McClain has even hinted at his character’s death on the show. Before the Ghost Season 2 premiere, the actor did a Q&A with his fans on his Instagram stories. When asked what would happen with Cane this season, McClain responded with a single emoji, an image of a casket.
