Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 is set to debut soon. The series follows Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.), who is trying to piece together his life in the aftermath of his father’s death. In the first season, fans watched Tariq navigate his life as a college student and a drug dealer for the Tejada crime family.

Now, the stakes are even higher. In fact, Larenz Tate who portrays New York City councilman Rashad Tate in the series will play a much bigger role in Tariq’s life than expected.

What will ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2 be about?

Ghost will return for its second season on November 21, 2021. This season, things are about to get even more explosive for Tariq. “Where we had begun an encroachment of his drug life into his school life with the incidents that took place in episode 8 with the attempt on his life and the body in the pool, now his whole drug life is crashed into his campus life in a real way,” Power creator Courtney Kemp told Entertainment Weekly. “And Tariq definitely feels like he’s walking around as a ticking time bomb. His relationships are going to get more complicated, and while that’s all happening he’s still got a love life.”

With his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton), in witness protection, and his uncle Tommy (Joseph Sikora) in Chicago, Tariq will have to lean on some unlikely allies for support. “He turns to those wielding power and influence: Davis MacLean and his new partner, Cooper Saxe, as well as Rashad Tate,” a Starz press release reads via TV Line. “All of these options come with a steep price.”

Larenz Tate has been upped to series regular

Tate has been upped to series regular in the second season. In an official press release, Starz announced that fans will be seeing a lot more of the recently defeated councilman.

“Tate will reprise his role as Rashad Tatea down-but-never-defeated Councilman,” the press release reads via Shadow and Act. “With the loss of the New York gubernatorial race still fresh, he refuses to feel sorry for himself. Some guidance from his brother pushes Tate to stop waiting for something to happen and use his influence to take action – leading him to unexpected places. After sampling a taste of power, Tate won’t be satisfied until he has the full meal, but he’ll have to decide what he’s willing to sacrifice for his seat at the table.”

Interestingly enough, the actor’s real-life brother, Lahmard Tate, who starred as Kamaal Tate, Rashad’s brother in Power will also be playing a pivotal role in season 2.

“Kamaal is once again doling out brotherly advice following Rashad’s gubernatorial loss and, for once, it seems to take as Kamaal watches his little brother take on a new role serving the people,” the Starz press release for season 2 reads. “Until Kamaal’s brought in on the investigation at Stansfield and he finds himself with a front-row seat for another one of Rashad’s escapades — but this time, Kamaal’s own career may be on the line.”

Will ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ crossover with ‘Power Book V: Influence’?

With the Love Jones actor playing such a pivotal role in the upcoming season of Ghost, we can only assume this means that Power Book V: Influence is finally on the horizon. Influence is the last of the Power Universe spinoffs. However, Starz has not yet announced a release date for the Rashad Tate-centered story.

We do know that the series will follow Tate’s second run for the governor’s office, but thus far there has been no information about it. “Who knows if you’re gonna see him pop up somewhere,” Tate told The Jasmine Brand. “The moment I know what’s happening, y’all will know what’s happening.”

Since Power Book II: Ghost will exist in the same timeline as Influence, it’s likely they will overlap.
