The second season of Power Book II: Ghost went off with a major bang. Over the course of the entire season, we watched Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige) try to find a balance between her family and her lover Mecca (Daniel Sunjata). For years, Monet was able to keep her children Diana (LaToya Tonodeo), Cane (Woody McClain), and Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray) under her control. However, with the release of their father, Lorenzo Tejada (Berto Colon) from jail things changed.

Secrets were revealed and there was a major power struggle between Monet and Lorenzo. Though the queenpin eventually chose her family over Mecca, there are going to be some major consequences for her actions in season 3.

Why is Monet Tejada so heartless on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’?

Even before she reunited with Mecca in the second season of Ghost, Monet was heartless. When her husband Lorenzo was in jail, she kept the family business afloat. But she also used her three children, especially Cane in order to do it. She only had a soft spot for her nephew Zeke (Daniel Bellomy) whom we recently learned was actually her biological son.

Monet appears cruel and calculated, but Blige says there is a reason for her character’s heartlessness. “She’s a queenpin, drug dealer, boss, and she’s a mama bear, she’s protecting her children but she’s also dark-hearted and ruthless,” Blige said during a press conference via Express. “If you don’t listen to her, anybody can get it, her kids, her husband, anybody could get it. “So she’s really a dark person with a heart – she’s a power seeker so that’s it. If anybody gets in her way with their power, that’s it, they’re going down.”

Monet will face huge consequences in season 3

In carrying on her affair with Mecca and hiding Zeke’s identity, Monet set off a chain of events that even she couldn’t control. Now, in the third season of Power Book III: Ghost, she’s going to have to face the consequences of her actions.

“Monet needed to make a decision about whether or not she was going to choose herself and what’s probably best for her or choose what’s best for her family,” Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp said during a recent Instagram Live. “So she chose what was best for her family. She chose it a little late and therefore she suffered some pretty huge consequences which we’ll see play out in season 3.”

Though Mecca is dead and gone, Monet is going to have to face the music.

Will Monet kill Lorenzo in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3?

Monet has learned that Zeke has been killed, but she has no idea that Lorenzo was the one who killed her son. Though he assumed he was shooting Mecca, the drug kingpin took the one person Monet loved the most. Kemp has also revealed that in season 3 we will meet Monet’s sister Lena, the woman who raised Zeke.

With her son shot dead, we doubt Lena will stop until she answers. If the sisters do find out that Lorenzo was the one who pulled the trigger, we can see them plotting together to kill him.

Either way, season 3 of Ghost is going to be a wild one.
