Power Book II: Ghost is back on our screens and delivering the drama and action that viewers have come to expect. The series stars Michael Rainey Jr. as Tariq St. Patrick, following the teen as he navigates life following the loss of his father, James “Ghost” St. Patrick. He follows in his dad’s footsteps as a drug dealer trying to support his family and becomes involved with the Tejada crime family, bringing various problems and difficulties into his life.

The second season has also introduced a character named Mecca. Mecca’s a drug supplier, but other than that, viewers don’t know much about him. More information will be revealed in time, but showrunner Courtney Kemp did let a couple of details slip in a conversation on Instagram Live.

Who is Mecca in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’?

Starz first announced the character in February and made it clear that he would be one to look out for. “He is calculated, manipulative, and dangerous,” Deadline reported. “Mecca conveniently reemerges in New York at the exact moment the Tejadas need to fill the void of a new product supplier. But when his mysterious past starts to become exposed, it reveals the drug business might not be his only end game with this family.”

It turned out that Mecca also has a past with Monet Tejada — but she knows him as Dante. She was involved with him as a teenager and got pregnant by him at a point. But she chose to keep it a secret from him and to raise their son, Zeke, as her nephew.

Finally stable, Mecca tells Monet he wants her to leave Lorenzo Tejada to be with him. But he clearly has other motives. “I can say he comes in with an agenda,” Daniel Sunjata, who plays the supplier, told TV Fanatic. “He’s pretty much willing to do anything that he has to do in order to produce the desired outcome and gets a little messy.”

Monet eventually gives in and kisses him in an episode after initially resisting him.

Kemp shared new information about Mecca

With fans desperate for more, Kemp went on Instagram Live to take questions the rest of the season. When asked about Mecca, she was careful not to give away any spoilers. But she did share some information about him and the people around him, including his chef, who doubles as an assassin.

“He is ex-military,” she said about Mecca, around the 33:00 mark. “And so these guys that he’s with, they’re all people who he kind of served with or worked with.”

She said fans would get to learn more as the show progresses, including what Monet told Zeke about his parents. All viewers know so far is that Zeke spent time in the south before returning to New York as a teenager.

Explaining his background in the very first episode, Zeke told Tariq that his aunt and cousins lived in the city, but noted that he, Cane, Dru, and Diana were more like siblings.
