Power Book II: Ghost is the first spinoff of the Power Universe. The acclaimed drama series follows Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.), the son of a murdered drug kingpin, James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick). Tariq is a college student trying to balance his other life as a burgeoning drug dealer.

As fans anticipate the return of the series for Season 2, one actor on Ghost is hoping his character will get a major win this season.

When will ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2 premiere?

Power Book II: Ghost has been filming its second season in New York City since January 2021. Unfortunately, Starz has not yet announced a release date yet. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has significantly shifted Ghost’s filming schedule.

“The truth is, COVID ‘f-ed’ up our first season in terms of how we were going to originally release it,” actor Shane Johnson, who portrays Cooper Saxe told Tea with Tia. “We did five and five, and that was never the design. But because of COVID we got shut down for, like, five or six months.”

When asked when Season 2 might premiere, Johnson also had a bit of insight. “I feel like our schedule has just completely shifted because of COVID,” he explained. “So, I don’t know. I don’t know.”

However, if we consider that the series initially debuted in fall of 2020, fans should expect to return to the drama series in the fall of 2021. When we do return to Ghost, fans can expect to see the stakes increase for Tariq.

“In the second season, Tariq’s journey with the Tejada family will get even more complicated — and more dangerous — as he begins to understand the man he’s going to become,” creator Coutney A. Kemp told TVLine.

Cooper Saxe could appear in multiple ‘Power’ spinoffs

While we might be waiting for the second season of Ghost for some time, the Power Universe won’t keep us hanging that long. Power Book III: Raising Kanan is set to debut on July 18. Meanwhile, Power Book IV: Force is already filming in Chicago and slated for a January 2022 release date.

Johnson says he hopes Saxe will have the opportunity to show up in multiple spinoffs as he’s done in Power and Power Book II: Ghost.

“What would be cool is if I bounced into some of the other spin-offs. Like if I manage to bounce into Tommy’s show,” he told Tea with Tia. “That’s actually a legitimate situation, which very well could happen. I think Saxe stirs the pot.”

Cooper Saxe could use a big win in season 2 of ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

In addition to his hopes to appear across multiple spinoffs, Johnson is also hoping for a major win for Saxe. Throughout Power, he was unsuccessful in taking down James St. Patrick and Tommy Egan (Joesph Sikora). Then, in Ghost, he was evaded by Tariq, effectively losing his role as a U.S. attorney for the FBI.

For Season 2, we can expect to see Saxe approach his work differently now that he’s teamed up with defense attorney Davis Maclean (Clifford“Method Man” Smith.)

“Here’s what I want for Saxe; I want Saxe to win. Just to win,” Johnson said. “I’ve taken so many L’s. I’ve been on this show for seven seasons. I’ve been on this show for eight years. Can you tell me a single triumph?”
