‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Showrunner Teases New Characters in Season 2
Power Book II: Ghost has almost completed its second season, but there’s still so much in store for fans of the Starz series. Created by Courtney Kemp, the show follows Tariq St. Patrick in the aftermath of Ghost’s death in Power. Desperate for money to support his family, Tariq follows in his father’s footsteps and starts selling drugs. But doing so only brings more challenges to his life.
After leaving off on a cliffhanger, the show returned in November of 2021, with a season focused on the response to Professor Jabari Reynolds’ murder. New characters were introduced, like Davis MacLean’s brother Theo, but there are more to come.
What’s happening in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2?
The latest season is all about Tariq as he works to ensure his and Cane Tejada’s involvement in Jabari’s murder remains secret. He’d tried to cover it up by framing Officer Danilo Ramirez, but the truth about what happened to Jabari slowly unravels throughout the season.
Another threat comes when crime boss Lorenzo Tejada is suddenly released from prison. Monet Tejada had taken over for him when he was incarcerated, but now that he’s out, Lorenzo has returned to his way of running things.
Kemp spoke about the aftermath of his release on Instagram Live.
“There’s going to be a lot of fun with what happens to the family with Lorenzo being out,” she said. “That’s going to be a really big deal.”
New characters will appear on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
Kemp teased that fans would also get to see more of Lorenzo’s side of the family as the season progressed. Little is known about his extended family, but fans briefly met his brother Frank in the first season.
Frank had just gotten out of prison himself when he stopped over at the Tejada home claiming Lorenzo had sent him. Monet felt something was off and had Cane kill Frank on the way home after suspecting he was a snitch. Frank’s widow visited her in the Jan. 16 episode to find out what happened and warned Monet to watch after Lorenzo. But as Kemp noted on Instagram Live, she was more so threatening Monet.
What to expect in the next episode
Elsewhere, Kemp shared some teaser information for Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 Episode 8.
She said: “What I will tell you is that this episode — episode 7 was kind of the gateway to the last three episodes of the season. Those of you who are real ‘Power’ fans know episode 8 is always really intense … and always involves some big deaths. You are going to see a really big death next episode, and you are also going to see a few secrets revealed.”
“Try not to have water in your mouth because you might spit all over your stuff in your living room,” she mused.
