‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Showrunner on Whether Mecca Suspects Cane of Setting Him Up
Cane Tejada is someone who knows what he wants and does whatever it takes to get it. The latest season of Power Book II: Ghost saw him getting close to the drug supplier Mecca, only for Cane to turn around and rob him. He thinks he’s in the clear after framing GTG. But does Mecca secretly suspect Cane of robbing him?
Cane set Mecca up in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2 Episode 8
In the episode, we watched Tariq St. Patrick and Monet and Cane Tejada come up with a plan to rob Mecca after losing their connects. They had GTG members attack his stash spot, while Brayden Weston, Effie Morales, Dru Tejada, and Lil’ Guap descended upon his penthouse.
When confronted about the robbery, Cane played it cool and didn’t react. In one swift move, Mecca turned and sliced Chef’s throat, accusing him of being a mole and helping to carry out the robbery. However, he also gave Cane a look as if he didn’t necessarily trust him, either.
Does Mecca know Cane set him up?
“What a great question,” she said. “We tried to leave this relatively ambiguous, but I definitely just wanna say that Mecca always has something to hide.”
While it’s not a direct answer, it sounds like the idea at least crossed Mecca’s mind. So then why did Mecca kill Chef if he wasn’t sure he was the mole? According to Kemp, it might be because Mecca “realized Chef was slipping and that’s how certain things happened.” Perhaps the pieces are finally clicking in Mecca’s mind and he realizes that Cane did know Tariq and likely worked with him to rob him.
Expect ‘big’ things in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2 Episode 9
We’ll see what happens with Cane and Mecca. In the meantime, Kemp said to expect some “big deaths” and more in the next episode.
“You know Zeke discovered Carrie’s body, so that’s going to energize a whole bunch of people, especially people who used to have a sexual relationship with her,” she said on Instagram Live. “What do we know about that? We know that another murder has been committed and that another murder has been committed by someone in our crew. And so what will take place? That’ll be interesting.”
“We know we’ve got a bunch of dead guaps, we’ve got a dead chef, we’ve got a whole bunch of deaths,” she continued. “So all those things have to come into play. And do we think, maybe because it’s episode 9, there are going to be some more big deaths? Let’s see! … There’s only two episodes left in this season, and you guys know how we do it.”
