‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Tariq Will Be Pulled Even Deeper Into the Drug Game in Season 3
The third season of Power Book II: Ghost is set to debut on Starz later this year. The drama series follows Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) in the aftermath of his father, James “Ghost” St. Patrick’s (Omari Hardwick) death. Like his father, Tariq has been juggling his personal and professional lives and they are beginning to collide together.
In the first season, Tariq began working with the Tejada family, and their matriarch Monet (Mary J. Blige). Though he was looking for a way out of the drug game in season 2, in season 3 it looks like he will be in even deeper.
‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3 will be incredibly shocking
Filming for the third season of Ghost has been underway since the beginning of the year. Knowing how sensational the second season was, fans should expect the forthcoming season to be incredibly shocking. “There will be fault lines drawn between Tariq and his friends, for various reasons,” Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp explained to Entertainment Weekly. “And then those will affect some fault lines that will be drawn within the Tejada family. There will be a series of earthquakes, and then a series of aftershocks that will shake the foundation and remake the series in a really sort of impactful way. That’s season 3.”
Tariq will be pulled further into the drug game in season 3
Just when we thought Tariq was going to be able to escape the clutches of Monet Tejada, she killed Mecca (Daniel Sunjata) which was his financial ticket out. Now that the college student knows his mother and sister are safe, it’s likely that he will become even more ruthless.
In fact, fans are convinced that he will be pulled further into the drug game when the third season of the series debuts. It turns out that Tariq’s beating his murder cases could cause him to be even more sinister.
Kemp told fans that there is a lot Tariq has to do before he can leave the game behind.
“it’s the world that he’s in and he needs the money and he needs to keep going,” she told TV Line.
Michael Rainey Jr. felt a lot of pressure when it came to ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
It’s been sensational to watch Rainey’s transformation into the adult version of Tariq. For years, fans have watched him transform from a naive kid to a rebellious teen and now as the lead in his own series. Since Tariq wasn’t exactly a beloved character when Power ended, Rainey felt a lot of pressure before Ghost debuted.
“It really feels great to have people tuning in and really taking us seriously,” Rainey told Essence. “At first I was nervous. It was a lot of pressure on me. Being a part of this is dope, but especially having a chance to get the fans to do a 180 and be on Tariq’s side a little bit is really dope. Shout out to the writing team. They did their thing.”
Now that fans are rooting for Tariq, let’s hope that his alliance with the Tejada family doesn’t bring him down.
