All eyes are on Power Book V: Influence, the fifth chapter in the Power Universe. The Starz series will see Larenz Tate step back into his role as Councilman Rashad Tate, the crooked politician from the original show, as he battles for more power. It seemed that his storyline was being set up with the latest season of Power Book II: Ghost. But show creator Courtney Kemp says he’s not moving on to his spinoff just yet.

Rashad Tate’s spinoff is baking

In Power Book II: Ghost, Tate is fresh off a failed bid to become New York’s next governor. Never one to back down, he steps up and gives his full effort to achieve new political goals.

“With the loss of the New York gubernatorial race still fresh, he refuses to feel sorry for himself,” the press release says, via Shadow and Act. “Some guidance from his brother pushes Tate to stop waiting for something to happen and use his influence to take action – leading him to unexpected places. After sampling a taste of power, Tate won’t be satisfied until he has the full meal, but he’ll have to decide what he’s willing to sacrifice for his seat at the table.”

By the end of Power Book II: Ghost Season 2, Tate had finessed his way into a congressional seat, after blackmailing Rick Sweeney with an old blackface photo. One would think Power Book V: Influence would take it from there, but Kemp told Entertainment Weekly, “There are more stories to be told with him on Ghost first.”

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3 is now underway

Although the second season of Power Book II: Ghost just wrapped, on Feb. 6, the next one is already in the works. Kemp said one of the big focuses, aside from Tate’s storyline, is the Lauren Baldwin coverup.

“What I would say is, Effie and Brayden have a huge secret that they have to keep from Tariq,” she told EW when asked for a teaser. “Cane is also part of that secret, but it’s really about Effie and Brayden and what their relationship will be with Tariq, given whatever happened onscreen with Lauren. What has happened to Lauren, as you discover going forward, will have a seismic effect on the relationships of our three musketeers.”

She also teased trouble for Tariq St. Patrick after Blanca Rodriguez recognized him in surveillance footage at Mecca’s apartment.

“She is definitely going to try to get Tariq,” Kemp added. “The audience is going to have very strong opinions about what Blanca decides to do in season 3 and how she plans to attack Tariq … So this is going to be a really interesting move, because she’s going to be pursuing him for something that really he’s not guilty of at all.”
