Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 is about to come to an end, and from what we’ve seen thus far, fans must brace themselves. Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) is still fighting for his freedom amid a trial for double homicide. Monet Tejada’s (Mary J. Blige) life has crumbled under the weight of her lies, and she’s had to turn to her former lover Mecca (Daniel Sunjata) for help. However, another power player has emerged on the series: Effie Morales (Alix Lapri).

Effie has proven just how much she’s capable of, and fans are now convinced that she has a major connection to Mecca.

Fans have learned a lot about Effie in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2

The second season of Ghost has been one of the most riveting in the entire Power Universe. Though the series centers on Tariq, we’ve also learned a lot about the Tejadas and Effie. Effie is one of the only people that Tariq trusts, but that may hurt him in the end.

“Effie Morales, a Yale student no stranger to drama,” her official character description reads. “And her quest for financial freedom via drug dealing leads her to big competition — her former Choate classmates, Tariq and Brayden. But when Effie decides to join forces with Tariq and Brayden again, she will be forced to determine where her loyalties lie — with herself and herself only, or with people who have shown their true colors time and time again.”

There may be a major connection between Effie and Mecca

Though fans adore Effie, they’ve also been suspicious of her from the beginning. In Power, she got Tariq and Brayden (Gianni Paolo) expelled from Choate for selling drugs because she saw them as competition. Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp has also told fans to remember that Effie will look out for herself above all. Now, a theory is swirling that Effie and Mecca are connected.

During a recent Instagram Live, a fan asked Kemp if Mecca was Effie’s old connect. “I know a lot of guys have been asking about a relationship between Mecca and Effie,” Kemp responded. “Again, I will just tell you guys that I don’t want to answer that question, but I do want you guys to stay tuned.”

Kemp had previously said that she avoided questions from fans who actually guessed plot points correctly. In episode 208, “Drug Related,” Effie helped Tariq and the Tejadas steal drugs from Mecca. Now, YouTuber MOVIE BOT suggests that Effie is actually Mecca’s inside woman, not Chef.

More of Effie’s backstory will be revealed in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3

With just one explosive episode left in the second season of Ghost, any connections between Effie and Mecca will likely be revealed before the episode ends. These revelations will probably lead into season 3, where Kemp has promised fans that much more of Effie’s backstory will come to light.

“Effie’s mom is a mess. But I’ll tell you about that later,” Kemp revealed in a 2020 Instagram Live. “And if you guys remember, close readers of the series, Effie’s brother is dead. He was murdered, so keep that in mind.”

Prior to Effie presumably killing Lauren (Paige Hurd), fans believed that she and Tariq might end up together. However, we think once Tariq finds out what Effie did, he won’t ever forgive her. As far as Lapri’s concerned, she doesn’t believe her character needs anyone by her side. “It shows she doesn’t need a man to do anything, and she is able to separate her feelings from business and move that ship forward and afloat,” she told TV Fanatic
