Starz has kept us entertained with plenty of Power content during the wait for more Power Book III: Raising Kanan, the prequel centered around Kanan Stark. But that doesn’t make us any less eager for its return.

The ’90s-set series chronicles Kanan’s rise before his violent death in Power. Kanan is just 15 when he joins the criminal organization run by his family, forcing him to grow up fast and become the man he wants to be. The show has been filming its second season even before the first concluded; however, it seems there’s still a bit of a delay in bringing it to the air.

Show creator Courtney Kemp discussed the situation on Instagram Live in February.

Kemp on the status of ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’

Kemp was participating in a Q&A on Instagram Live when she asked about when the show would return. “I don’t have a date, but I can tell you they are shooting the finale right now,” she replied.

“We had to push part of the season because of COVID,” Kemp continued. “The Omicron surge made us have to delay the beginning of [‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3] and take a break in the middle of ‘Raising Kanan’ Season 2. It’s going to be on a little later as a result, but like a tiny bit. And I think it’s actually more going to affect the second half of the season, but not that much.”

While Kemp did not say when the show might return, it seems to still be on pace for a 2022 release. It just might be some weeks later than expected.

‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Season 2 has ‘a lot of complicated things going on’ for Kanan and his family

In the latest episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Kanan (Mekai Curtis) fled town to lay low after the shooting of Detective Malcolm Howard (Omar Epps), who is secretly his birth father. He was last seen crossing the state line into Maryland along with Symphony Bosket (Toby Sandeman).

Asked what to expect on the show next, Curtis told Entertainment Weekly that it’ll explore the aftermath of those events.

It’s just the continuation of actions and consequences,” he said. “There’s going to be some stuff happening that, again, you’re going to see how it molds and shapes Kanan and what it does to his psyche.”

“The family’s in an entirely new space and different dynamic now, so it’s them navigating that and figuring out where they can step, where they can’t step. It’s a lot of complicated things going on. It’s wild,” he continued.

The show will also introduce several new cast members next season, including LeToya Luckett as Jukebox’s mother Kenya, Krystal Joy Brown as Marvin’s therapist Renée, and Paulina Singer as musician Zisa, among others.
