Power dominated television for the six seasons that it was on TV. The drama series follows James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a businessman and married father of three leading a double life as one of the most volatile drug kingpins in New York. His business partner and lifelong best friend, Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora), was feared and fearsome in his own right. Menacing and having little remorse, Tommy had no interest in going legit, which was a major point of contention between himself and Ghost for the majority of the series.

While the men’s friendship shifted and transformed over the course of the seasons that Power aired, in the end, it was Tommy who was by Ghost’s side when he bled out on the floor of his nightclub Truth from a gunshot inflicted by his teenage son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.). To say that it was a stunning ending was an understatement.

Though Tommy is set to continue his own spinoff of Power, Sikora has some thoughts about the original series ending.

Joseph Sikora wasn’t supposed to play Tommy on ‘Power’

Sikora embodied the ruthless and menacing Tommy perfectly on Power who was able to shoot a man between the eyes and head over to Ghost and his wife Tasha’s (Naturi Naughton) house for dinner. However, the actor wasn’t originally even cast in the role.

Sikora was busy working when the Power auditions first occurred in 2013. “I believe that they already had their final choice, but then Omari Hardwick signed onto the project and they had to go through the audition process again. Luckily, this time I was available,” Sikora told Channel 24 via Express.

Originally, the role of Tommy was given to actor Andy Bean who was recast in Power as FBI Agent Greg Knox, Angela’s (Lela Loren) love interest who became obsessed with her relationship with Ghost. Though Greg was a central character for some time. He was killed in season three by corrupt FBI Assistant US attorney Mike Sandoval (Daniel Fumero).

What is Joseph Sikora’s ‘Power’ spinoff about Tommy about?

Sikora has become a fan favorite in the Power Universe, so much so that he is currently filming his own spinoff Power Book IV: Force in Chicago which will chronicle Tommy’s life following Ghost’s death. “I think that it’s going to take all facets of Tommy that we’ve built up to until now to not only survive but to potentially thrive — and to potentially leave,” Sikora told Entertainment Weekly. “You don’t know if it’s going to be one city and then another city and if he’s going to keep bopping or what connections need to be made.”

Since Force is currently being filmed, we can expect to see it debut on Starz in late 2021 or early 2022. “It definitely is in terms of its violence and sexuality very old school Power,” Power creator Courtney A. Kemp told Deadline.

How does Joseph Sikora feel about the end of the original ‘Power’ series?

Though Tommy lives and apparently thrives well beyond Power, Sikora still has some thoughts about how the original series ended.

“It was really a sad ending for these two brothers in arms. It was really a finality,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Yes, it was a total finality for Ghost, but it was being a finality for the partnership and the brotherhood of these two men. It was really emotional and a real departure…I’m going to be very excited to see what Tommy fills up that empty shell with.”
