For the first time in more than two years, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their highly-anticipated public appearance in the U.K. and attended events with the rest of the royal family.

In early June, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex traveled to England for Queen Elizabeth II‘s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The couple was not permitted to appear with the working royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony during Trooping the Colour, but were seen the following day for the National Service of Thanksgiving. Now, a commentator is claiming that because of the icy reception they got from the crowd and fellow royals not speaking to them, Meghan and Harry skipped an event they were expected to attend.

Commentator says ‘nobody would speak to Meghan and Harry’

The Sussexes were filmed after the service as they left St. Paul’s Cathedral. They stood at the top of the steps trying to navigate which car was coming to get them now that they had been demoted to non-working royals. Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, chatted briefly with the pair as they exited the church. But her husband, Mike Tindall, did not even make eye contact with Meghan and Harry.

“Between the booing and the cold-shouldering that they got from everybody, my understanding is that by the time they left they were absolutely spitting bricks,” commentator Lady Colin Campbell told GB News (per Express). “And then the coup de grace as far as they were concerned was not only that they were booed, but while they were waiting for their car, nobody would speak to them except Zara.”

Campbell added: “Mike Tindall avoided them like the plague. He made absolutely sure he did not catch their eye.”

The event the Sussexes ended up skipping

Inside the church, things weren’t much better. The duke and duchess did not mingle with Prince Charles, Prince William, or Kate Middleton at all and were seated in another row on the opposite side of the church.

The reaction and frosty reception Meghan and Harry received couldn’t have been unexpected given everything that has transpired and what the couple said about the royal family over the last two years. However, the prince and his wife were reportedly very upset about it.

Therefore, as the Mirror reported, they decided to skip the Guildhall luncheon for all the royals following the service at the last minute despite not having any other plans that day.

An event Prince Harry and Meghan were not expected to attend was the televised Platinum Party at the Palace. The lineup for the concert Included some of music’s biggest names like Rod Stewart, Elton John, and Diana Ross. The event happened to be on the same day the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter, Lilibet, turned 1 so they had a small gathering at their Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Mike Tindall, who was at the concert and seated right behind the Duchess of Cambridge and her son Prince Louis, revealed that event ended up being a nice spot for family members to spend time together as well. He told The Good, The Bad, and The Rugby podcast: “It was at the concert where there was a bit more of a chat together because we went in and had a drink with everyone after. I think the committee that put it together did an incredible job.”

And according to Express, when speaking to a fellow guest at the concert, Mike referred to Prince Harry’s behavior as that of a “b*****d.”
