For the past few weeks, it seems that “Megxit” is all that anyone can talk about. Ever since Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry shocked the world by announcing their split from the royal family, questions have been flying all over the place.

Everyone wants to know where they will live, if Meghan will still be known as a duchess, or if the recent tension between Prince Harry and Prince William was the cause of the split. One of the biggest aspects of the entire situation is the fact that Meghan and Prince Harry have made it clear that they plan to become “financially independent” once “Megxit” takes effect this spring.

As we know, they have been living a life of luxury and privilege, relying on taxpayer funds to pay a pretty good portion of their expenses. Now that Meghan and Prince Harry have decided to step back from their high-profile positions as senior royals, one of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind is how they will generate the income needed to support themselves and their son, Archie Harrison. Well, as it turns out, Prince Harry and Meghan will continue taking money from this royal source.

The split that left everyone talking

Prince Harry has been a fixture in the royal family basically since the day he was born. When he married Meghan, fans around the world were delighted, and she fell perfectly into her position as the Duchess of Sussex.

However, Meghan and Prince Harry didn’t exactly have the easiest time. According to the Washington Post, Meghan has been hounded relentlessly by the British tabloids, and she and Prince Harry have more than had enough.

In fact, Prince Harry has voiced his concern regarding Meghan’s safety and has been quite vocal about how he won’t let the paparazzi do to his wife what they did to his beloved mother, Princess Diana. It is evident Prince Harry and Meghan haven’t exactly been treated fairly, and it has definitely taken a toll on the notoriously private couple.

Ever since they got married, the couple has been criticized for just about everything, from Meghan’s family issues to their extensive use of private jets this past summer. Still, the announcement of the split came as quite a surprise.

One of the newest updates from Queen Elizabeth

Naturally, everyone has questions, and the senior royals are doing their best to provide as many updates as they can. So, what is one of the latest pieces of information that we have learned of?

Fans can certainly remember when many people were upset about the fact that Meghan and Prince Harry used almost $3 million dollars in taxpayer money to renovate Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before they moved in. Now that they are stepping back, they will repay that money.

The BBC also reports the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer be receiving public funds from the Sovereign Grant.

It looks like Meghan and Prince Harry are willing to sacrifice a lot as they prepare for the newest chapter of their lives. So, now that they are no longer receiving public funds, where will they get money from?

While we can’t say where the couple will receive all of their income from just yet, according to Us Weekly, they will continue getting financial support from Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles.

How so? Well, Prince Charles owns the Duchy of Cornwall private estate, and funds will continue to be given to Meghan and Prince Harry. While they will no longer be getting revenue from royal duties, they can luckily count on the nearly $3 million dollars that they receive from Prince Harry’s father — the future king of England.

While it’s not uncommon for a child to receive a cut of their father’s net worth after their passing, Prince Harry’s arrangement is slightly unorthodox since it is neither an inheritance nor a trust.

What’s more, the decision is especially generous and surprising given how reportedly blindsided Prince Charles was by Prince Harry’s move. According to BBC, senior royals like Prince Charles were reportedly “disappointed” and felt “blindsided” that the couple did not outline their plans before making their announcement.
