Prince Harry Could Not Have a Social Life That Meghan Markle Did Not ‘Approve Of,’ Royal Author Claims
It is not uncommon for one’s social relationships to change amid big events, such as the start of a marriage. However, some onlookers have raised concerns about the changes in Prince Harry’s social circle after Meghan, Duchess of Sussex came into his life.
According to one royal biographer, Meghan has been acting as an “operator” in Harry’s life, determining who he could or could not hang out with.
Prince Harry’s social circle reportedly changed after he met Meghan Markle
Before Harry met Meghan, his inner circle was full of close, long-time friends and family members. For example, Harry was known to have buddies he met at school, and he also remained in touch with some of his ex-girlfriends.
Some sources claim that after Harry and Meghan started becoming more serious, he distanced himself from his friends. For example, one of his childhood friends, Tom “Skippy” Inskip, reportedly raised questions about Harry’s relationship with Meghan. According to the book Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Harry was “hurt” by this and did not invite Inskip to one of his wedding parties.
However, it is possible Harry fell out of favor with some friends because he has a different lifestyle now compared to before.
Royal author claims Harry could not have a social life that Meghan did not ‘approve of’
Not everyone believes Harry chose to distance himself from certain friends on his own volition. Royal author Lady Colin Campbell thinks Meghan had a lot of say in who Harry could keep in his social circle.
“Meghan was cutting a swathe through Harry’s social life, she didn’t approve of this, she didn’t approve of that, she is an operator,” Lady Campbell said, according to Express.
This claim seems to back up what TV presenter Lizzie Cundy said in 2019. As reported by The Sun, Cundy shared she is friends with “a lot of Harry’s friends” and has heard that Meghan “pushed them all out.”
“She’s ruling the roost,” Cundy said. “This friend, I won’t name him, he had Harry on his shoulders in Las Vegas when he got into that trouble. He was a really good, solid friend – covered for him, everything – he has been elbowed right out.”
Was Meghan the main force behind ‘Sussexit’?
Because of these accusations against Meghan, it is not surprising she was blamed when she and Harry announced they would step down from being senior royals. Critics like Piers Morgan, for example, often accuse Meghan of pulling Harry away from his country, his family, and his royal life.
Yet, others believe Harry always had a lot of trouble fitting into the royal family and that he had been wanting to leave for a long time. This could be a reason why he decided to marry Meghan.
“I wonder if he didn’t choose a bride from another country because it gave him an out, because it gave him some security,” said TV presenter Trina Goddard, as reported by SheKnows.
