Meghan Markle‘s tenure as a senior royal was brief but she made her mark on the monarchy as someone who was different and unwilling to play by the same rules everyone else went by for years. The Duchess of Sussex‘s biggest supporter when it came to how she wanted to do things was Prince Harry. Now, a royal author has claimed that the Duke of Sussex actually encouraged his wife to show she was “uncontainable” after learning that she wasn’t going to be a “team player.”

Prince Harry and Meghan talked about being part of ‘the bigger team’ when they got engaged

In November 2017, it was announced that Prince Harry was engaged to the Suits actor. During their joint interview, Harry talked about Meghan becoming part of a “bigger team” to do the work of the royal family.

“It’s an added member of the family. It’s another team player as part of the bigger team,” the prince said about his then-fiancée joining The Firm. “You know for all of us, what we want to do is be able to carry out the right engagements, carry out our work, and try and encourage others in the younger generation to be able to see the world in the correct sense rather than perhaps just having a distorted view.”

“Meghan has proven, with Harry’s encouragement, to be completely unmanageable and uncontainable,” Lady Campbell said (per Express). “If you read my book you would see the palace were really upset that Meghan was not a team player.”

She added: “When the song came on and everybody was to take their positions and dance to the tune, Meghan was out of line and high kicking when she [was] supposed to be demure.”

Campbell isn’t the first person to claim that Meghan didn’t want to follow the rules as others have called the Duchess of Sussex a “maverick.” In the documentary Meghan at 40, royal commentators Tom Quinn and Emily Andrews discussed Meghan’s time as a senior royal and how she wanted to do things her way. However, that isn’t the way it works in Queen Elizabeth’s family.

Quinn said: “The thing is, this is someone who wanted to be a feminist on her own terms. She was a maverick, and it’s very difficult to be a maverick in the royal family.”

Andrews then added: “I think all those positive attributes that Meghan had meant that she was not willing to listen and she was not willing to learn. She wanted to do everything herself.”
