A new book claims Prince Harry was “pissed off” about Prince William’s well-intentioned advice about rushing into a relationship with Meghan Markle, but was there tension between the brothers before then? One expert claims that Harry “resents the perception” that Prince William is more sensible, while he’s seen “a loose cannon.”

Prince Harry and Prince William’s feud may have started over brotherly advice

In Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claim that Prince Harry and Prince William’s feud was, in part, due to William giving his brother advice.

“William wanted to make sure the American actress had the right intentions,” the authors write. “After all, these are two brothers that have spent their whole lives with people trying to take advantage of them.”

“Don’t feel you need to rush this,” a source said Prince William told Harry. “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.”

“Harry was pissed off,” another source said. “Pissed off that his brother would ask such a thing.”

“Some felt it was an overreaction,” they added. “But then, this sums them up as people — William, the calm and rational one, and Harry, who can’t help but take things far too personally.”

Prince Harry reportedly resents that Prince William is perceived as the sensible brother

While there may have been a disagreement between the brothers following Prince William’s advice, one royal expert points to Harry’s reported feelings of resentment about William.

Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe told OK! that Prince Harry expressed this concern when meeting him for a drink in 2008.

Larcombe spoke of Prince Harry’s “unresolved anger” about life in the spotlight and his “resentment over not feeling normal.” Part of his issue was with the public’s perception of him when compared to William.

“Harry once told me that he really resents the perception that William’s the sensible one while he’s the loose cannon. He said there were times when it was actually Harry giving William advice,” Larcombe explained.

He added, “It’s a shame that no one has said to him, ‘Your brother wants what’s best for you.'”

Expert claims Prince Harry has suffered in Prince William’s shadow

Royal biographer Lady Colin Campbell believes that Prince Harry has “second son complex,” explaining in an interview with The Sun how he has lived in Prince William’s shadow.

According to Campbell, “he has the biggest chip on his shoulder of any member of the royal family in the past few centuries.”

She added, “He has been so painfully troubled and unhinged by being the second son.”

Another expert says Prince Harry is ‘fed up’

Royal biographer Angela Levin weighed in on the feud between the brothers as well, telling Royal Rota that Prince Harry’s reaction to William’s advice is years in the making.

“Having spoken to Harry for quite a long time and I also followed him for a year for my biography, I understand that he’s fed up with being the second boy,” Levin explained. “He was fed up with it as a child and it was always William first. William would be invited by the Queen Mother to go for tea, but not Harry.”

She added, “So he sort of missed out and I think that when you’re in your mid-30s, you can suddenly say, ‘No, leave me alone. It’s my life.'”
