The Sussexes released one podcast episode since December 2020

In December 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a deal with Spotify to produce podcasts via their production company Archewell Audio.

Harry said in a trailer on Spotify’s website, “That’s what this project is all about, to bring forward different perspectives and voices that perhaps you haven’t heard before and find our common ground.”

As promised, on Dec. 29, Harry and Meghan released a 34-minute long podcast episode. Dubbed a “holiday special,” the episode featured the voices of several celebrity guests, including Elton John, Naomi Osaka, and James Corden. The focus of the episode was on the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, so the guests talked about various ways they had been dealing with this unprecedented crisis.

Toward the end, fans also got to hear a “happy new year” message from the couple’s son, Archie, who was 19 months old at the time.

A royal expert speculates on what could happen with the Sussexes’ podcast

Ever since the Sussexes signed a deal with Spotify, some people have speculated that they could either release their own podcast or simply produce podcasts for other content creators. Nevertheless, there have not been many updates on this front ever since the holiday special episode.

Royal commentator Neil Sean recently talked about this on his YouTube channel. According to Sean, “nobody really knows what Harry and Meghan plan to do via Spotify, seemingly including Spotify themselves.”

However, Sean speculated that the couple could move to BBC Sounds, another streaming service. Sean also stated that this could be a “clever maneuver” for the Sussexes given the fact that the BBC does not seem to have a good relationship with the royal family in recent years.

Nonetheless, these rumors have not been confirmed Harry and Meghan’s camp.

In addition to podcasts, Harry and Meghan have signed deals to produce content in other formats as well.

For example, the couple also signed a deal with Netflix in 2020. So far, it has been announced that Harry is working on a docu-series about the Invictus Games for veterans, which he co-founded when he was a working royal. Meanwhile, Meghan is reportedly working on Pearl, a children’s series that will highlight influential women throughout history.

Additionally, the Sussexes also has a deal with Penguin Random House to publish books. Earlier this year, Meghan released a children’s book called The Bench. In 2022, Harry is expected to release a memoir.
