Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting the arrival of their firstborn child any day now. While the Duchess of Sussex’s actual due date isn’t entirely known, Her Highness has hinted at a late-April date. While the royal family — and the rest of the world — anxiously await the arrival of the new royal baby, we can’t help but wonder: Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already planning for baby number two? Find out what we know, ahead.

How many children do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want

It’s no secret that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a whirlwind romance. From dating to engagement to wedding to baby, not much time has passed since the two first met. The two are very much in love, which likely has something to do with their relationship (and family) advancements.

That said, the timing of their marriage and pregnancy could have something to do with how many kids they want. At 37 years old, Meghan Markle is considered “advanced maternal age,” which could mean a riskier pregnancy, or harder time conceiving in the future.

Recently, while attending a reception on behalf of his royal duties, the Duke of Sussex chatted with a Falklands veteran named Simon Weston, who warned Prince Harry of the many sleepless nights ahead. According to Weston, Prince Harry admitted that if “he had more than two children, it would serve him right.” By the sounds of it, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might not just be thinking about a second baby, but a third, too!

Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already thinking about baby number two?

Given the possible risks of mature pregnancy (also known as “Geriatric Pregnancy”), the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are likely already thinking about baby number two — and possibly even baby number three. But, although Meghan Markle’s age might have something to do with it, it’s possible that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are considering the closeness of their children, too.

In the royal family, it’s not uncommon for children to be close in age. Despite the age gap between Princess Anne (68) and Prince Andrew (59), many royal children are born just a couple of years (if not less) apart. Prince William (36) and Prince Harry (34) are around two years apart and Prince George (5), Princess Charlotte (3) and Prince Louis (11 months) are also close in age. Princess Beatrice (30) and Princess Eugenie (29) are 19 months apart. Zara Tindall (37) and Peter Phillips (41) are also a few years apart.

What will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle be like as parents?

It’s no secret that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are excited for parenthood. But, what will they be like as parents? Between Prince Harry’s nephews and niece and Meghan Markle’s closeness with her friends’ children, both mom and dad-to-be have quite a bit of experience with children, so we don’t doubt they will make a great team. The two are also incredibly sweet and understanding with the children they encounter on royal tours, which also reveals what they might be like as parents.

That said, Prince Harry is a big softy, so we doubt he will be the one disciplining. Like Princess Diana, we imagine Prince Harry will be fun, warm, and full of life — he will also try his best to provide normal experiences for his children like trips to Disneyland (Princess Diana once took him and Prince William there) and maybe a sneaky bite of fast food (though health-conscious Meghan Markle might not approve).

Meghan Markle will also make a great mother. The Duchess of Sussex is incredibly close to her mother and has a warm, sweet character. She and Prince Harry are both passionate about philanthropy and women’s rights and will likely teach their children about giving back to community, equality, and supporting others.
