Are Harry and Meghan splitting up? An expert on the British royal family says they are but not in the way one might think. According to a royal correspondent, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are likely to be spearheading their own projects and working separately in the new year.

Meghan and Harry may work independently moving forward

Harry and Meghan’s split only pertains to their brand. Royal correspondent Neil Sean said in a December 2021 YouTube video per the U.K.’s Express that the parents of two have supposedly been advised to split professionally.

After stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Meghan and Harry bought a home in Montecito, Calif., and began establishing themselves as a brand. Gone were the days of using their Sussex Royal Instagram account. They had to figure out how to make a living without funding from the royal family.

Part of the transition to post-senior royal life included multiple deals with major streaming services. They inked what could potentially be a multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix and another with Spotify.

So why would this Harry and Meghan’s split be happening? According to Sean, the 37 and 40-year-old have been advised to forge their own paths.

“It looks like in 2022 they could be heading for a split and here’s the reason why,” he said. “Those very expensive people that they pay thousands of pounds to every month from all of those deals that we all report on basically said, ‘look it would work better if you were independent of each other.’”

As Sean explained in the new year the public could be seeing a shift in how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do things. A potential Meghan and Harry split could mean they both focus on causes they care about instead of tackling them as a couple.

Meghan will reportedly focus on politics and activism

So what will the Duchess of Sussex’s work center on in 2022? Causes that were important to her even before she married Harry in 2018 and joined the royal family.

“As we know Meghan Markle wants to become some sort of political figure whatever story they’re painted out that is the true story,” he said. “She wants to become an activist and of course a champion of rights whether that be women, men, trans. That seemingly does seem to be the route that she wants to go down.”

Neil continued, saying “As we told you on the show a couple of days ago, her not having a political voice was one of the major reasons why she decided to quit the royals.” Meghan stopped being politically neutral when she and Harry left their senior royal roles. Most recently, she wrote a letter to the U.S. Congress advocating for paid leave.

Harry’s work will supposedly focus on mental health

Following the supposed Harry and Meghan split, the Duke of Sussex will continue on with his mental health work. “Prince Harry has set his cap at all the things to do with being unhappy” and “mental health balance,” Neil said, noting how “he’s so connected to that.”

Harry’s already made headlines talking about mental health. In 2021 he finally appeared in the long-awaited docuseries from him and Oprah Winfrey. Harry discussed his own mental health journey and opened up about therapy.

Until it’s official Meghan and Harry have split their work, royal watchers will have to wait and see what sort of paths they take in 2022.
