Before Prince Harry married Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in 2018, he was known for being involved with many different women. In one instance, Harry had a serious relationship that eventually broke down. While there were various reasons for the relationship ending, it seems Harry’s sister-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, might have had something to do with it.

Do Prince Harry and Kate Middleton get along?

When Kate joined the royal family in 2011, Harry was still unmarried. As such, Harry often accompanied Kate and Prince William to events, and it seemed to many onlookers that the three of them were very close.

In fact, when Harry still lived at Kensington Palace alongside Kate and William, he often gave the Cambridge children gifts. According to Town and Country, the book Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand said that Harry gave an electric SUV to Prince George and a tricycle to Princess Charlotte.

However, many reports state that Harry and William have been drifting apart, and this also affects Harry’s friendship with Kate. Allegedly, Harry and Kate are no longer as close as before. Harry and Meghan also stepped down as senior royals in early 2020 and moved to California. Meanwhile, Kate and William continue to stay in the United Kingdom to carry out royal duties and prepare for their future as king and queen.

Prince Harry once lost a relationship because of Kate Middleton

Back when Harry and Kate still got along well, it seems Kate had a role in the breakdown of one of Harry’s relationships.

Harry had a long-time girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, whom he dated on-and-off for about six years. In 2011, when they were considered “off,” Kate and William got married. Reportedly, seeing Kate at the wedding made Davy realize how much she did not want to marry a royal, and it ultimately ended her relationship with Harry for good.

“In 2011, after more comings and goings, she finally decided to go—and it was, ironically, Kate and William’s grand and glorious wedding that spring that did it for her,” royal author Robert Lacey wrote in the book Battle of Brothers, as reported by The Mirror. “According to a friend, she told Harry that she could never make the sacrifices she had witnessed Kate making, particularly when it came to molding her life around the unremitting attention of the press.”

In 2016, Davy also spoke out about her struggles in the spotlight when she dated Harry. According to the Daily Mail, she shared, “It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable. I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope… I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.”

Davy was not the only girlfriend who broke things off with Harry because she did not enjoy the press attention that came with the royal lifestyle. Cressida Bonas, a socialite Harry dated from 2012 to 2014, did not want to marry Harry for a similar reason. For her, the glass-shattering moment came when she reportedly saw baby George on a royal tour to Australia.

“In 2014, she was said to have been ‘completely spooked’ after watching the TV coverage of William and Kate touring New Zealand with baby George in tow,” Lacey wrote in Battle of Brothers, according to the Daily Star. “That was not the way she would want to enjoy her eight-month-old son, she regretfully explained to Harry.”
