It’s no secret that Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship has been challenging in the past several years. Though the royal brothers were always close growing up, as the older prince begins preparing for his role as the future Crowned King, the Duke of Sussex often felt dismissed and left in the background.

When Prince Harry met Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, he assumed that things would change. The brilliant former actor brought new and modern ideas to the royal family. Unfortunately, The Firm is used to tradition and the things the Sussexes wanted to do weren’t exactly embraced.

For his part, Prince William never grew close to his sister-in-law, referring to her as, “that girl” when they initially met. This perceived slight angered Prince Harry and the brothers’ relationship hasn’t been the same since. However, now that the Sussexes are living in California, Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship has been better.

Prince Harry is thriving in California

Despite the royal family’s shock at Prince Harry’s exit from royal life, the prince appears to be thriving. No longer financially dependent on the royal family in any way, he and Meghan have purchased their first home together in Santa Barbara.

They’ve also signed a multimillion-dollar Netflix deal that the royals are reportedly not too pleased about. Moreover, the couple has also repaid the money they used for their Frogmore Cottage renovations. This independence has allowed them to reclaim their lives.

“This is the moment [Harry] can sit back and think, ‘I made it,'” Finding Freedom co-author Omid Scobie explained to Vanity Fair. “He’s embracing his new life and everything is an adventure right now. He has moved on very quickly, and I don’t think he misses his old life at all,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward added.

Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship is still a bit strained

Though Prince William and Prince Harry have been speaking more often, their relationship is still a bit strained, especially amid the news of the Sussexes’ Netflix deal.

In fact, both Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge were missing from the younger prince’s 35th birthday Zoom with the royal family on Sept. 15. A royal source told The Mirror,

William sent his birthday best wishes. There was some excuse made about why he wasn’t there….It was a bit awkward that William and Kate weren’t there. It was very pleasant. Harry told the family how much he missed them. Meghan baked a cake and Harry blew out candles. Archie made them laugh when he also blew them out.

Distance has helped Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship

Though Prince William reportedly didn’t show his face to wish his brother a happy birthday, things between the princes are still better then they have been in years.

An insider told Daily Mail that Prince William and Prince Harry are “speaking more than they did before. The distance between the two dukes has been a good thing for them. They are ‘getting on better than they were several months ago.”

However, the source did explain that it would be quite some time before the brothers indulged in a cozy Christmas. Still, progress is good.
