Prince Harry Reportedly Will Not Come Back to the U.K. Because He ‘Can’t Face His Family,’ Author Says
Prince Harry moved to California in 2020 with his wife, Meghan Markle. Since then, he has rarely returned to his home country, and many fans often wonder when his next visit to the United Kingdom will be. According to a royal author, Harry might not come back anytime soon.
Prince Harry has only been back to the U.K. twice in the past year
The world was on lockdown for much of 2020, and Harry and Meghan mostly stayed in California.
When countries started opening up in 2021, Harry made two visits to the U.K. by himself. In April 2021, he attended the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip. Then, in July 2021, Harry made another trip to the U.K. This time, he attended the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana in Kensington Palace.
These two visits came shortly after Harry and Meghan criticized the royal family in interviews with stars such as Oprah Winfrey and Dax Shepard. There are reports that these interviews contributed to a rift between Harry and his family.
Prince Harry reportedly ‘can’t face his family,’ according to royal author
Many sources alleged that Harry still has tension with the royal family. According to author Tom Bower, the Duke of Sussex might not return to the U.K. anytime soon, especially because Harry will release a memoir later this year that could criticize the family even more.
“The next few months will be the ultimate test for Harry, the ultimate dilemma,” Bower told Closer. “He insists he adores his grandmother, so will he come back to support her at Prince Philip’s memorial service, and will he come back to support her and celebrate her reign in the Platinum Jubilee? These are milestone moments and, sadly, time is running out.”
Bower added, “I think Harry won’t come back because he knows he cannot face his family, and be pleasant with them, knowing what he’s written about them in that book. That book will have a lot of casualties and cause a lot of hurt. It will really deliver, as Harry knows it has to, to justify the money he’s been paid to do it. How can Harry come back and pretend it’s all fine? The worst of what he will say is yet to come.”
Prince Harry has also expressed safety concerns in the U.K.
Earlier this year, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan announced via a statement that the couple is hesitant to return to the U.K. because of security issues, such as “well-documented neo-Nazi and extremist threats.” According to the spokesperson, Harry’s security was also allegedly “compromised” when he last went to the U.K. in July 2021.
As such, Harry and Meghan have launched a legal action against the U.K.’s Home Office to get tax-funded police protection.
“The UK will always be Prince Harry’s home and a country he wants his wife and children to be safe in,” the statement continued. “With the lack of police protection, comes too great a personal risk. Prince Harry hopes that his petition—after close to two years of pleas for security in the UK—will resolve this situation.”
